I had a need for some different lengths of interconnects for my home theater, and I didnt have any spare sets lying around of the right length.
So, that prompted me to dig out the box of spare parts, and make a few.
The question is: which cable would be best bang for the buck? Which one is best in terms of cost/performance ratio?
It's not really about cables being better or being good... its how they sound different to other cables, on any given system, and how we can use them in the mix for tuning our systems
most of us dabble in making DIY interconnects from time to time... It's a fiddly job that takes time.

A friend (also forum member) recommended Mogami 2803 cables (group buy). This thread is to share pics of my work.

For RCA jacks, I used some Eichmann bullets and Amphenol connectors I had lying around. CA cheap stuff, I bought a long time ago.

Basically, you get some nylon expandable braided/woven sleeves around 1/2 inch or so in diameter and some heat shrink tubes
of course some tools and a soldering iron.

What these cables do for me; they sound great on my system and added liveliness to the sound, very detailed Improvement over the store bought decent looking connects I was using.
I would need to know the capacitance of each interconnects. In my opinion having a low capacitance on interconnects is the most important part of the design.

Time just flies when making cables. I am over tired and under whelmed!
I'd forgotten how fiddly the job is, and how slow I am at making them... above all 2803 is a nightmare to handle :o

BTW, also made a pair of speaker cables with Gale wire and some heavy duty banana plugs.

Nice termination of cables! what is the cable terminated with Eichmann bullets... looks so thick?

Very nice job, congrats.. Can you lend me 2803 for an hearing /// Currently using 2549 would to try that too. Will bear the shipping charges.

Regards.

Thanks to Hydrovac for sending the mogami 2803 for testing and cable rolling.

I had very extensive listening with those cables and found to be worthwhile for jumping into these if you are with mogami 2549 or other cheapo cables.

It has very detail rich and have good control over mids and high. I found it is Crisp and exact non-bloated highs..The cable has good control over bass.

It cannot be an contender to 2549 and both are different and clearly 2803 is superior to 2549 in all aspects.;)

I have tested the 2803 in the chain without and with DAC and for sure it sounded different. Once the DAC is inserted into the system i could feel it improved the sound and it is much more clear. However with or without DAC 2803 could deliver the output.

Inserting of DAC is merely a taste for few and to get more juice out of source.

Thanks srini... for reviewing the IC and posting your impressions.

The 2497 and 2803 are definitely the best choice for unbalanced connections... neither of those cables can be used for balanced interconnects as there are only two conductors. The similarity is that, both cables use NEGLEX OFC.

Although the 2803 sounds better than the 2497, the latter is much more robust and easier to strip and terminate. The only thing I could have wished for is deeper bass extension.

I'll say they are, great value for money RCA interconnects!

Great job!
May I know the source of the mogami cable? I tried Pace Communications, Mumbai and another place. Both say they have stopped importing Mogami :(
Where do I source it from?
