just got myself made a 138" 16:9 screen using the Flex Material used for computer printing for making illuminated signboards over aluminium frame.
will post some pictures later today.
looks great!:yahoo:

Congrats. That's quite huge. Would wait for the pictures.

BTW I think the material you have used is vinyl board. I didn't think of it when I made mine. I was limited to the maximum size of laminate that is 4 x 8 feet. I was restricted to 99"

my first screen was also a laminate 48"x96", which was the maximum size available in our town. used asian paints emulsion with matte finish. dont remember the name of color.

it worked very well.

gidd,

You purchased it somewhere or someone gave it to you. can you give more details.
I need one too. I am not sure what type of shop to approach.

thanks

which screen r u referring o ? the laminate screen or the current 138"screen?

both screens are DIY projects or a slight variation of the definition which reads u stand over the guys doing the work and get it done to ur liking.

pics i can show u, but the damages part will take some time to calculate , as i am getting a lot of things done simultaneously, repairs and modifications to my home, upgrading the dedicated home theater, creating a home theater around the 50" panasonic plasma TV in the living room etc. etc.

the screen images i will post today

Thanks gidd.
I was referring to current 138' screen. Wondering from where you got the material?
Can you throw the break up cost as soon as you have time and worked it out. except for manhour charges, other cost should be same here.

Thanks gidd.

the material u r referring to is nothing but the whateveritis white thing u see in all those signboards which are illuminted with lighting inside, sort of like rear projection. it is similar to a plastic sheet with a smooth shiny surface on oneside and a matty surface on the otherside. actually what i was planning on doing was to have the smooth surface as the screen( with spray painting with the chosen paint)but i got this mad idea and reversed the screen so that now the reverse side which is matty and poses no problems of hotspotting is now the screen.

actually i havent really looked at the images with a critical eye as the remote for my projector konked out and it is a hassle trying to set up the projector without the remote.

still i will post some images soon.

Thanks gidd.

Grabbed some images with handheld camera after a few drinks, to celebrate the new screen and new polk speakers. so dont expect very sharp pictures. will post properly taken screen images later.

the material is available in any town u can go to any shop which does these illuminated sign boards u see on every shop and he will definitely tell u where to buy it.
okay the costs involved 1. screen material -72" x 144" cost me Rs. 900/-
2. the aluminium bracket is made as a rectangle with 2 vertical supporting rods of the same material, which is a rectangle shaped hollow tube , i dont know what it is called, Rs. 2000/- 3. making charges for me was around 2 days work for my carpenter with one assistant Rs. 12oo/- 4. Cost of hardware like L angle brackets, wooden inserts for ends etc. and Glue for sticking the material to the frame--may be around Rs. 300/- 5. Services of a specialist for actually sticking the material on the frame so that it is taught and without any wrinkles, This is the Most Important Part. Here i paid him Rs. 500/- for all of 1 hours work. i dont know how they will charge u. usually the prices r pretty much fixed depending on the area of the frame. so if u make enquiries with the same sign board makers referred to above u shouldnt be robbed. so the final cost for the 138" fixed frame screen is Rs. 5,000/-https://plus.google.com/photos/115773627389280371394/albums/5855023962881216097?authkey=CN_Gifn1uN6w-AE

Gidd,

when you find time, could you also post a couple of shots of screen with lights on. Just to see how goodit turned out. I could also use that as reference.

thanks,

And projector off.

have just taken some shots of the screen and the screen images too, properly this time. the projector is still not tuned as the remote conked out and will get the new one on april 11th. and fiddling with the controls on the projector is a big pain.

not the place, but just added a pair of polk FXiA4s as main side speakers. need to check later whether they sound better in bipole mode or dipole mode.

will post the screen images some time today after work:D
