Edifier 5.1 speaker system

Hi.

How's the Edifier S550 5.1 speaker system? I would be connecting it to my laptop, DVD player for music and movies. This is interim till I get a full stereo, movie setup with amp and speakers. Then I will continue using it as a secondary setup.

Is it any good at 17K? Anything better out there?

Hi Saiju ,
It is the best you can get for PC . I am using it for last 8-10 months , now also connected it to my AVR.
It's way ahead then those punny computer speakers .
The best price you can get fr this one is 14000 this was told to me by service center guy.

Let me know in case you need any info about edifier s550 as i am using this for quite while now.

Two days back my friend got a C2. Since he was not in Mumbai I hooked it to my Sony BR player for music and movies and was pleasantly surprised. The only problem was since it's a 2.1 setup the dialogues were muddled but the music section score was blasting. Hope the dialogues are better on the S550.

I got a quote of 17K. Where can I get it for 14k?

Just to let you know i bought them at 19600 ,at that time MRP was 26000 but now MRP has been reduced to 19000 and you can get them at 14000 ( checked 2 months back ).

Were ever you call (and if they quote you above 14000 ) say them that your friend has bought them for 14000 one month back

The MRP on their site Edifier is 21K.

I'll finalize tomorrow if I get a good deal.

good speakers and yes they are rated a lil above z-5500 but.. you sure bout those prices..

logi is for 14k now and edifier is no less than 18k.... also it has a closed sub that is good for music.. however only analogue.. and last year they were close to 25k..


so if you are planninh any digital connection forget about them and through your laptop on analogue you will not have surround sound.. so think and then go ahead

17K was the first quote. Not sure if I can move it southwards. Seems like Edifier jacked up the prices recently.

You are right about the missing digital input. However, there is S550D version that has digital input. Finding more about that.

My main concern is about the movie dialogues, will the Edifier handle it without muddling it up?

What about your Logitech - how is it treating you?

dear you can also check Croma ...there were some offer running last week for edifier.....combo offer....pen drive free.

Bummer! S550D is not available. So will have to wait till S750 is launched. Don't understand why the 2.1 S730 has switchable analog and digital audio but a 5.1 system does not have it.

I know this is a foolish question but what are the cons of sending digital audio to 2.1? Makes no sense correct?

550D i guess was never available here.... and it was quite expensive compared to the analogue... and logi is feeding me good audio to my ears.. just took some work for the sub placement and now all good.. quite happy with em...
