Hi,

My denon AVR x2000 needs an HDMI board replacement within 18 months of purchase which will cost me 24K. I was advised on the Denon owners thread to go for a new AVR instead of replacing it. So now, I am in the market for an AVR and my top criteria is Extended warranty.

Does Denon,Yamaha or Pioneer provide Extended warranty in India. Has anyone tried this and has any experience to share.

Hi

No one provides extended warranty and since you have faced HDMI board issue with Denon, suggest you look at other AVR brands to avoid the same situation.

Marantz is also made by the same company (D & M Holdings) like Denon....the difference is better built quality due to high grade components used and also there is a difference in performance and ofcourse costing....

Audition and decide what works for you...all the best...

Due to the fact the HDMI boards inside the AVRs are normally positioned right on top, it's prone to dust from the wide ventilation present on the top of AVR chassis. So lot of dust gets accumulated on top of the board which could corrode the components and eventually the board may stop working.

My advise is that once the warranty is over, you could easily open the top cover of AVR and use an air blower to blow away all the dust. I do it once in 6 months. This will certainly prolong the life of your equipment.

onkyo warrenty covers 2 years. if u insist they can extend for a year. i find their service is very good. they pick up calls everytime, can contact sales by whatsapp. i wanted to purchase marantz 7010 , but i dont want to move away from onkyo. so waiting for onkyo to launch good models, with atmos 7.2.4 support..currently own tx508.onkyo, past 3 years.+

Also use a cloth cover to prevent dust.

To tackle dust, covering the unit when not in use is a must.
One other item I feel should be a part of any serious AV enthusiast (for equipment care) is:
"Ostrich Feather Duster"
It helps in literally sucking up dust, unlike other dusters which simply move dust around.
Something about the feathers being mildly static charged. And it is washable.
If you have anyone coming from US, have them carry it. It sells for about 5-10 USD at Walmart.
Don't buy it in India if you have a choice, it is unreasonably expensive.
In my home it is very useful as I have dust and dog hair all around the house.

Cheers,
Raghu

Recently I have heard that this HDMI board issues majorly happens when to Tatasky/Videocon type STB is connected to AVR via HDMI (particularly during monsoon seasons). I don't know how far this information is true.
I have felt many times earthing problem from my Videocon STB cable input which is coming from the Dish (when the cable end is touched with your bare hand).I don't know whether because of this HDMI boards are affected.Have heard some surge protectors are available for this.
Some FMs can suggest some tips on this.

Hi

It is true that most HDMI boards get affected when you connect Set Top Box to the AVR as the signals are not in proper order....sometimes there is some amount of electric current which passes through and hence fries the HDMI board.....this is a fact...one of my good friends who is a dealer in hi end home theatre products has confirmed the same. There are a lot of cases coming up for repairs...

The alternate connection from Set top box could be optical or coaxial.

I have connected the Hathway HD Set Top box thru HDMI to the TV and from the TV ...optical out to the AVR.....it works fine....have not tried directly the coaxial out from STB to AVR....will figure.....
