Final cost of this driver?

B&C are very fine drivers of Italian origin. Earl Geddes, one of the modern speaker design gurus used B&C midbass 12TBX100 driver both as sub as well as midbass. Their published specs will match the driver spec closely.

The pro audio drivers can take insane amount of power and are intended for higher loading alignments like horn etc. In a higher loaded alignment the xmax requirement is less and power requirement is more and the drivers are made such.

In sealed alignment you will xceed xmax of 9 mm (much much before the power limit ) at 25Hz at 103dB SPL. Ported will give better performance in the lowest octave.

I would suggest a more realistic twin sub with dual 12" driver in each sub. A total of 4 drivers. The in room performance of 2 subs is always better than 1 combined big sub. The combined surface area of four 12" drivers is about equal to one 20" driver. It costs lot less too and performs better.

This is what I was looking at.
Wish to get performance close to this using the diy route.
Is it possible?
Performance Measurements

Thanks :)

One could get very close if you leave out sub-bass.

If you target 25Hz as lowest frequency then below is how one could go.

Four 12 drivers equal one 19" driver as far as surface area is concerned.
Now, lets look at performance at 40Hz sealed since below that you could use a port tuned at 25Hz. Near tuning the excursion is drastically reduced so lest ignore that for the moment.
As per the calculator here http://www.baudline.com/erik/bass/xmaxer.html
Driver size=19"
Freq=40Hz
SPL@1M=114dB
Xmax=9.6mm

Now find 4 10mm xmax 12 inch drivers and power for the xmax. Certainly doable.
By the way that kind of bass is probably harmful.

Also look at car drivers that are used for SPL competition. I m not sure where to get them locally. I have a also seen 15" car drivers in local market quite some time back

Just on a not so serious note.... These guys do some really crazy stuff with car subs :D:D

I wish to get/build a subwoofer ( get bass) better than what I'm getting at present.
Present sub genelec 7060b.
Need a passive sub.( Budget <50k)
Having crown xls 1502 amplifier

Will add another subwoofer after selling genelec sub.

Thanks.

@OP, this thread has gone into multiple tangents. I had hoped to be able to answer this question because I purchased this very driver last month.

Unfortunately the logistics of shipping something so heavy is a bit tough and i am yet to receive the driver (40 days later) Parts express uses a shipper who has DTDC as a partner in India, so no one knows where it is. Once it lands (in one piece) I'll tell you know much the hit was. :)

Haha..
But got to learn about other good drivers.
Pro drivers etc.
The Dayton India distributor quoted 48k plus taxes.( I don't who will buy it at this price)
And at this price I don't find it value for money.

Waiting to know the final cost.
Thanks.
