Fine Tuning of Denon 1311

Hi all;


I have bought a new Denon 1311 last month
I haven't refer to this forum before buying it.Once I read the comments about 1311 I realised I did mistake.

I am Novice to this,and need help from all of you to fine tune my AVR

I did all he connectios and basic configuratoins my self,still I am not satisfied with the surround(5.1) sound.

Please help

Just because people have an opinion doesn't mean that your Denon doesn't sound good. If it sounds good to you then that's all that is required. Trust your own ears.

You have to calibrate your system properly. Don't trust the auto-calibrations but instead calibrate all the delays and distances yourself. Take help of someone who knows the stuff in your area and don't fall prey to dealers who want to sell something better.

I would suggest to use automatic settins using Audissey. It will be a good base to start with.
Later on, as you spend more and more time with the system, you can carry out optimisations which would happen over a period of time and not all at once. For example, at first, you may get impressed with an overload of bass, but later on realise that it needs to be tuned down in order to sound more realistic and fatigue-free.
It really takes years of listening experience so as to be competent enough to manually calibrate a system in one go.

There is no Audyssey in 1311.

If there is test tone, you can adjust the channels to sound almost equal to the listening position manually. If SPL meter is available make use of that

The modern day electronics are complicated to understand/master more so when you are a novice(me too) and the owners manual is incomprehensible. I own a Denon and it sounds good after proper calibration. Try this, it helped me BATPIG'S DENON-TO-ENGLISH DICTIONARY

I am using Denon SYS-391HT spreaker system

check in speaker settings, you have all speakers set to small and subwoofer as YES

then ceck the LFE, set it to 120 HZ

now the crossover, set those above 120 HZ and keep adjusting till you get the bass of ur taste

1311 is preety basic receiver but if these basic settings are right, it will sound great

check ur speaker and sub woofer connections also sometimes if they are loose or something you will not get good sound

Y do u feel 1311 is a bad choice... Its a very good AVR.. I guess the speaker system which u have got is not the right ...
1311 goes very well for bookshelves and make a good 5.1 package.. nywayz little tweaking with the LFE settings and Tone settings shd help u...

Chek out the Batpig's D to E dictionary.... very useful
