I have procured 2 pairs db6501 polk, one pair focal 165a1 sg, one pair db651.
I want to build a pair of towers for 2 channel audio.
If some gurus can chime in and let me know if I should go sealed route, ported or passive radiator route.
I plan on separate isolated Chambers for focal 165a1sg and polk db651.
But I am unsure about db6501.
Also should I procure another pair and make it 3 pairs of db6501 for more low end?

I will be using 1 inch mdf.
Just bought these speakers, everything is still in mind, nothing on paper.
Would love to hear comments and suggestions.

PS: I have already bought the 4 pairs of speakers., confused about the 5th, got them in a very good and cheap deal.

Do you have the ts parameters for these drivers?

If not, then you might go for active xo with dsp like minidsp.

The t/s parameters are a little hard to come by, infact I have not been able to find them thus far.

In that case building a passive xo would be very difficult.

Yup, but I really want to make sure that not only does it look gorgeous, but sounds pleasing too.
Still hoping if some guru can chime in and raise the moral by giving a few good tips.

To tell you the truth, car drivers are not suitable for home use. But as long as diy spirit is high, there's no harm in trying.

Yeah, I have actually built a small diy long time back, n was overwhelmed by the overall sound quality n dynamics.
It was a small pair of bookshelves using car components gto 608c.
Hope to achieve even better this time around.

Hi delhite2,

I m a Delhite too :D

all these are different set of speakers, dont mix them in one design.
as far as the specs says for each speaker, db6501 have better frequency response, use them. keep db651 and focal for other project. you dont need to design passive or active crossover, its included.

car drivers are designed for car use, as there's no calculation of the volume of the door panel where you are putting them, although still one could calculate that if he's a pro and tune it, But no one does. So, manufacturers dont provide ts specs.

that doesn't mean they are not suitable for home use, if you can design a decent enclosure and tune it properly, they could sound really well. understand Paper was invented for writing, not for making speaker cones, but still sounds great;)

there are some kits available for finding ts parameters like this:
Dayton Audio DATS V2 Computer Based Audio Component Test System

or you could try Wallin jig if you like to diy http://www.raymondaudio.nl/files/jig.pdf

good luck for your build.

Regards,
Aniket
