Hi All,

I wish to setup a good stereo system , I have a Norge 1000 amp.
Can the experienced pros suggest me a FS Speakers around 35 K to match with the amp.
Also one more question , would bookshelf speakers serve better than Floor Standars.
My room would be around 13 by 11.

Thanks

Hi ,

For your room size I would recommend stand mounted (bookshelf) speakers. Also you have a good budget for speakers but you are planning to drive them with norge amp(no offense it is a decent entry level amp), my suggestion would be to sell the amp add up the budget and get a good amp and speakers that go well according to your music taste.

Just my 2 cents.

Kittu

Hi Kittu,

Thanks indeed for the advice. I was planning to do the upgradation one step at a time , get the speakers first and see how they sound with the amp and then replace the amp.
According to you Bookshelves would serve a better purpose than Floor Standars , so what would be a good pair of BS to invest in.
I am basically looking for a long term investment on the setup.
I listen to mostly rock and some indian at times.

Welcome!
I do not have much knowledge on Norge though I have heard good things and the 1000 is a powerful amp. 35k is a decent budget for speakers. The general opinion is that bookshelves for the same price will sound better than the floorstanders. but you will need to also account for sturdy stands for BS (~ 5- 6k min)

Id suggest bookshelves as well. Take your amp along and do audition all possible speakers you can.
Some of the speakers in your range are:

1. Monitor Audio BX5 (FS) and RX1 (BS)
2. KEF Q300 - Award winner
3. B&W 685 - loved all over the world
4. Quad 12L
5. EPOS m12i - I think a little out of your budget but liked by a lot of forum members
6. Dali Lektor 2 and Ikon 2

Well !!!I was trying to say that bookshelfs will be ideal for that room size, but if you can spend some time and money on your room acoustics even FS might fit in well...... (only home audition can prove it)

There are plenty of brands available. What kind of music u listen to and what brands are locally available for you to audition?

Hey Thanks ,

I have two queries : I have heard and read good reviews for the Monitor Audio Bronze BR2 , how would that be for a BS speaker.
Also would there be a difference if a BS speaker is kept on a stand as compared to maybe a table ?

Hey Brother,

Thanks for the advice , It really was an eye-opener.
I checked in Kolkata the following are available :

KEF Q300
Quad 12L
Dali Lektor 2

All above within the budget mentioned , and i will audition them in time.
Any other BS set our forum experts can suggest , would be very helpful to a novice like me in the world of HI FI.

Add EPOS M12i also to your list of auditions. I am not sure if its available in your area.

I was given a quote of 64K before negotiation by Mukesh of Swish Please check with him for further details (Bangalore)

Hey,

Thanks indeed for the help, unfortunately in Kolkata i have very little to play with. I could try Dali Ikon 1.
Mornitor Audio does not have any representation in Kolkata. Also I can think of brining the speakers from abroad, but there would be a premium i need to pay which would be foolish.

No one for Ushers?

I dont remember the model exactly but was on offer by ARN For 24k. I think it was mini dancers. Sonosphere has paired it with Adcom power amp and is extremely happy. Thats saves some money for stands as well.

Hi Deepak,

What you'r saying makes absolute sense , what i am running short of is : Time, but let me embark in the speaker auditioning adventure !

+1 to Deepak - Please audition as many speakers as you possibly can before you take the final plunge time invested in auditioning is a wise investment. :)

Man whatever everyone might say, I as a speaker manufacturer myself will say that nothing can beat the complete sound of floorstanders. Look for the right pair depending upon your likes n dislikes and also kind of music you listen to or get one manufactured to your taste from a custom builder, But if you're looking at a long term investment in a speaker pair then floorstanders are definitely the way to go.
