hi
im a noob when it comes to foobar. just set it up and have a question

when foobar extracts the files, it shows folders as per tags in the song, not as per how it is organized in the folders as per my setup. for example, if i have a greatest hits cd, it will not show it under one folder. it shows it under each of the original albums it has come from, even though i do not have those albums. so suddenly, instead of having one folder, i know have five. also im not familiar with these folders. is there any option to ensure foobar displays folders as per user setup and not as per song tags

Try using mp3tag software to organise your albums. It will rewite tags to arrange the tracks as per the album. Many other useful features as well.

There is a Folder view as well. Look below the Library pane on the left. There is a view by drop down list.

thanks a lot aashish. took me a bit to find it but figured it out. i was initially looking in the library option in the menu

That is so true for Foobar, back in the day the volume icon was hidden and difficult to locate.

But all said and done, nothing sounds like it when it comes to playing audio files on the computer.

ya its a good software. could do with a bit of tweaking and being more user friendly. esp the interface. make it more 'windows' like, with buttons to click on etc to play files and folders. Jriver seems much better that way. another thing that i noticed is that the in bar showing the movement of the song on top, it does not show the time elapsed etc. that would be nice to have (and easy to implement), esp when you want to move to a particular part of the song

I think there are different themes and background customizations that one can do. Please check hydrogenaudio site and I believe its a freeware so audio enthusiasts build it and still maintaining it with regular updates. I do not mind the default layout as I just use the official app on my phone to control and its pretty good (I even went ahead and purchased the professional version of the app and its a good addition) and I felt better than JRiver official app. But for people who would like to use the monitor instead of the app you can customize the look and feel and the layout as well to your liking, otherwise who cares how the UI looks as long as it plays out superbly ;)

facing another problem - the foobar android app is unable to detect the computer on which foobar is playing. tried putting in the ip address manually as well but not working. any suggestion?

Please post a screenshot of your http control settings from Foobar. As the auto detection on the app takes sometime to detect but manual it will take immediately. The HTTP control settings should have been set properly with the check box and the IP address mapped with ":8080" port then I think your app should detect correctly.

thanks manniraj and jmascreen.
i added foobar to list of programs to accept under the firewall settings. even turned off the firewall. but hasnt helped

manniraj, you mean the settings in the mobile app? i put in my ip address - 192.168.1.115 and the port was automatically set to 8888. tried it on that and 8080 as you suggested. hasnt helped so far.

will keep trying. if any other suggestions would appreciate

Getting the foobar Android controller to work can be quite a struggle. It usually has to do with correct IP and port setting. Once the host PC detects it, you will have to manually enter the host IP address on the Android device each time you boot up the host PC. I'm assuming your router has dynamic IP assignment. If you can access your router settings, you can increase the time between when the router allocates IPs to connected devices. Also I think some home routers can have static IP assignment.
