got a pair of PSB B5 for surrounds to go with T6 towers. Had used a different pair of speakers earlier for surrounds - from energy. Huge difference once i changed to B5.
Terrific pair of speakers. Was looking for the B4's. But they are not available anymore.

Also did a quick compare side by side. Wondering now, why I didnt just get bookshelves all around. Its just bass which is different, a sub would have filled in well.

Congrats!

I'm glad to hear that somebody else also feels the way I generally do about floorstanders after using the Image Series standmounts. I use the Image B6 and I've felt the same. These sound better overall, with more pleasant midrange and far better imaging. The bass quantity is of course lesser than the floorstanders, but the bass from the standmounts sounds better to me.

Any idea how the B5 & B6 compares?

how much did it cost, and where did you get them from?
26K from Final touch

Just heard the PSB B6, they are very very good, the centre he used was C4, not to my liking. I am sure PSB B5 must sound great too.

I haven't compared the two myself so I don't have personal experience. But I do know a couple of people who prefer the B5 to the B6 for its slightly tighter bass response.

I take back my comments, was too quick to judge. :o
I did a much better compare with a wider variety of songs, Setting X-Over at 100Hz for a fair comparison.

The towers are definitely way way better!! The difference was mid bass. While a sub can cover the below 100Hz and make up lack of it in bookshelf. The mid bass is seriously lacking in the bookshelf. Mid bass is just not complete. I felt Difference was night and day in mid bass.
Mid range, dont see the bookshelf lacking at all.

Should do a better compare of mid range setting X-over @ 250Hz, removing the mid bass effect, to get a better idea.

For mid bass, Played songs like - Rammstien - Du Hast, Robbie Williams - Rock DJ, Celine Dion - I'm Alive, Donna Lewis - Without Love, Bryan Adams - The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You, Michael Jackson - Man in the Mirror, Van Hallen - I Can't Stop Loving You.
This one is a must listen to compare mid bass - "AFI - Prelude 12-21"

Doing this may not be a good comparison as removing Bass above 100Hz can be a easy task for speaker. You cant judge the Dynamic range. For music, many may not prefer SW.

Wait - did you use the B5 with a subwoofer and find that mid bass is lacking? What frequency range are you referring to as mid-bass?

i agree. I was thinking the same thing since large part of power is usually sucked by the bass region. Most troublesome speakers have impedance dips in this region requiring a better amp. On the other hand, since my amp has really good head room, its really not an issue in this set of comparison. The problem occurs when amps dont have enough head room and when speaker is demanding for more power in bass region. Then the speakers will seem to be better when crossed over so high, playing at high volumes.

Nope. Crossed over at 100Hz. No subs.

Mid bass is the region from 100- 200Hz. This is the region that gives you a real thump in the chest kind of feeling. Play a song setting x-overs at 100Hz and then 200/250 Hz and you will know what i am talking about.

Edit: I usually feel the real effect of mid bass thump only after a certain volume. At low volumes the mid bass thump is more like a small baby thump :D.
I wonder what the effect would be like with a few bass traps. Not sure if it might help for mid bass.

Did some more listening.
The B5 is much better in reproduction of musical instruments than what the T6 is. This with cross over set at the same 90Hz. In the T6 many musical instruments, is a little on the feeble side compared to B5. Not sure if its the Bass which is drowning out the instruments in T6. The bookshelf on the other hand is crystal clear reproducing instruments.
The bass is lacking for sure in the B5. Listening to it i feel its how the 2 speakers sound and not the case of bass drowning out the instruments.

As much as i love mt T6 and dont want to admit it, i feel its more pleasant listening to the Bookshelf than the towers for music. Back lacking is the only factor. Need to couple this with a sub and see.

Anyone kind enough to lend me their sub for a couple of days :). Wana listen to the BS with a sub.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
