Great music albums...recorded really well!!

Stockfisch Records Music albums are the best ones I've heard. The CDs are above Rs 1000 but they worth it. I have few CDs like David Roth - Pearl Diver, Sara K - Waterfalls, Closer to the Music - Vol I, II. They all are recorded excellently. All these are my all time fav albums.
You can blindly buy a CD and I am sure you wont repent it. :)
 
1. Robert Cray Band: Cookin in Mobile-Vanguard(Universal)Year 2010-Rs.495/- A great full concert CD/DVD combo (75+ minutes) from a popular Blues artist. Worth every paisa.

2. Bobby Mcferrin: VOCAbuLarieS-Emercy(Universal)Year 2010-Rs.395/- One of the most satisfying albums I have ever heard. I just couldnt comprehend the amount of effort taken to record this album. The best album from Mcferrins catalogue.

3. Brian Culbertson: Bringing back the Funk-GRP(Universal)Year 2008-Rs.395/- A totally different approach by Culbertson while recording this album . Just crank up the volume and listen to the master keyboardist & his cohorts at their best. A great album to let go of ones inhibitions.

4. Acoustic Alchemy: The Beautiful Game-Higher Octave Music-Year 2000-Rs.445/- A great smooth jazz album from the masters.

5. Courtney Pine: Modern day Jazz stories/Back in the Day-Verve/Blue Thumb(Universal)Years 1995/2000- Both are totally different sounding albums. Traditional jazz lovers would prefer the first album, whereas the second one sounds more in the acid-jazz mode & its always a pleasure to listen to the music he makes. I have couple of more of his albums & it is very difficult to categorise Mr. Pine. I bought all his albums on sale (between Rs.110-Rs.190).

CDs mentioned (1-4) are still available in Mumbais music stores.
 
A well "recorded" album is a bit of a misnomer. Albums are produced and engineered. They are recorded in a studio. I personally prefer albums (when on CD) to be issued as AAD. (Analogue recording, analogue master and mix and Digital pressing)

Why? because the warmth and the depth of the ambiance of a studio and characteristics of instruments are captured beautifully when great microphones and tube amps and mixers are used along with spools for the recording. Another fantastic part about such production is that musicians are seated in different parts on the studio to capture the ambient spaces in there.

Kun fayakun song from the new movie Rockstar is too good to listen.
 
I would rather prefer the term Great music albums that I like very much for this link. As mentioned elsewhere, I am no audiophile. I am not aware of the intricacies of recording, engineering, etc., involved in the process. I guess modern blues/jazz music are recorded based on certain norms before being released by popular labels. I have modest music system that is quite adequate for my needs - 10 ft/15 ft is my listening space. I dont do much research while buying my hardware, as I suppose international brands maintain certain benchmark while introducing a product.

I am just devoted to the noise that emanates from the 12 cm discs. I find enjoying LP music cumbersome, though TT was primary my primary source during my initial 20 odd years of music experience. Nowadays, I am really stumped with everyone going head over heels about VINYL. Believe me, I have about 700 or more LPs, and it is quite a pain to maintain a LP, storing, cleaning, taking care of styli, etc. Also, with the advancement in digital technology, I have no qualms in saying that listening to the CDs is more gratifying.

Through this link, I am merely sharing the music that I appreciate, and, that are readily available in the Indian market.

This one is my personal favorite , the sound of the instruments are lifelike.

Although I don't have tube amplifier but It will be really an experience to listen this CD on it.

I find the "Come Away with Me" from 'Norah Jones' very detail in recording. It also sounds excellent to my ears. I like it to the extent that I can listen to this everyday for the rest of life!!!..

I have many of these albums and agree.

You should consider Dave Carter and Tracey Grammer's "Drum Hat Budda" and much of Alison Krauss and Union Station also. Dave Carter died of a heart attack at 40 something, there will be no more.
 
+ Alison Krauss. I love Neil Diamond's Hot August Night. Other artistes that I enjoy albums are Patriicia Barber, Eva Cassidy, Carol King, Carly Simon-Moonlight Serenade. The list is long.
 
I am very late to follow this wonderfull and informative thread - thanks to the OP and all contributing member.

I find lebles like Stockfisch , waterlily acoustics are superb. I had the popular "Pearl diver " lp .Recently I heard the CD also from a fellow member and to my surprise the CD is nearly eqaul in performance. Though these CDs are costly also but cheaper compared to the Lps.

Currently got " hope -Hugh Masekela " 45 rpm lp from "analouge production" superb music and superb recording.

Sorry that I conveyed a wrong impression about the title for this link. My point was that I am clueless about the criteria for determining the albums that were recorded very well.

Here some of my Blues favourites.

2. Blues to the Bone-Etta James-2004-RCA Victor-Rs.399/-.
3. I was warned-Robert Cray Band-Mercury-1992-Rs.445/-
4. Robben Ford & The Blue Line-Self Titled-GRP Stretch Records (Universal)-1992-Rs.395/-

Jonny Langs & Etta Jamess albums are available in the market. Though all the recordings of Robert Cray Band and Robben Ford are impeccable, as far as I am concerned, I have mentioned these particular albums since they are available at reasonable prices with flipkart.com. Incidentally, I have about 10 albums of Robert Cray and 7 of Robben Ford.

I would like to add 2 soundtracks, old Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy stuff, but spooky and haunting: Rush and Homeboy. Fid the sweetspot, turn of the lights and LISTEN.
 
Recently, I bought Champagne & Grits, Artist: Little Axe (Bernard Alexander)-Rs.445/-, released by Real World Records label, Year-2004.

The music is a total aural experience - for me manna sent from heaven. The music is peppered with blues/gospel,/funk/reggae-dub styles, with a basic emphasis on the Blues.

The album opens with an acoustic blues track. However, the rest of the tracks are woven around blues music with all different styles. This is a superb hybrid music. Just switch-off the distractions and experience 50 odd minutes of musical ecstasy.

I would like to add that this kind of music may not be everyones cup of tea. For me it is total bliss.

Wish there are more such adventurous musicians like Little Axe out there. If you are into Robbie Robertson (as a solo artist)/Peter Gabriel/Morphine/Los Lobos-look beyond the La bamba era, you would appreciate this music.

Well recorded albums eh!! That's tough - how do you deem an album to be well recorded?? All tones & tunes in the right place, nothing out of balance?? I personally go by pure 'feel'! Well recorded albums have a way of communicating with you. Perhaps, when you listen to them you wonder about the sheer artistry of the musicians, revel in the joy of great music and forget about technicalities like gear and speaker placement. Here are some albums/artists I think are well recorded:

1. All albums by Blackmore's Night
2. The Louis Armstrong box set
3. Chrome, Smoke and BBQ - ZZTop
4. Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
5. Live at Massey Hall - Neil Young (a legendary album by a 24 yr old Young;good for testing 'mids' too)
6. The mono versions of albums by The Beatles.

Christian Paul, we share very similar tastes in music...I love Bossa Nova and have all the albums that you have posted....The Brian Culbertson's albums in general are very well recorded and my personal favorite is It's On Tonight...wonderfully recorded and great melodies.....
