seem like im back to square one :D
denon or Marantz or just dump both and go for stereo amp or some 4th option .. . humm i need a deep thinking before i buy something and regret :|

Just to spoil the party...the denon 1912 is available again in amazon.de @400 euro, during the interim period it wasn't available as frequent visitors would be aware. With 19% VAT discount, 40 euro shipping and the prepaid import duty it will have a landed cost of 460 euro ~ 30k INR...grab it before the stock depletes again..the only catch is they will ship after another 3 weeks..but I guess it will be worth the wait..

I finally changed my mind and ordered the onkyo 609.. :-)

@koushikp: have you checked the options of servicing in India, in the long run. how much does it cost for paid services ?

I don't know why exactly that should be a concern as post 1 year any problems in the AVR will anyway require paid servicing, considering how widely Onkyo and Denon is sold in India getting servicing is unlikely to be a problem. And I feel one has to be very unlucky to face any problem in the AVR within the first one year, it would mean one got a defective piece in the first place. That's a risk one has to take when directly importing, whether bringing by hand or through a site like Amazon. IMHO unless one gets a defective piece, no AVR will give you any problem even in the long run if one cares for his equipment enough.

I would prefer the Denon 1912 available for 35.5K with bill and warranty to the Amazon import for 30K. The extra 5K you will pay is worth the peace of mind. Within 6 months of the purchase, my denon 1612 needed servicing due to hdmi board problem. Had to shell out Rs.1.2K for shipping alone to the service center. Don't know how much would have been the service charge if the product was not under warranty. HDMI board problem seem to be a common issue with Denon AVRs. But if the margin is 10-15K, then the Amazon route can be considered.

I agree !! Denon ,, especially in the xx12 series , there has been issues with the HDMI board going kaput.. and its quite costly to replace that.

Point taken, I wasn't aware of the Hdmi board issue in the denon AVRs. And I will have to concede that 5k seems to be too little a margin for import. In my elation to the fact that the denon was available at 400 euro again I didn't take into account that we have a firm offer of 35k, apologies for the same.

I changed my mind to the onkyo 609 instead of the denon 1912, and there I am yet to get a price lower that 46k for it in mumbai, so there the difference seems to be almost 14k, seems worthwhile to import.

@koushikp: Great choice. Waiting to hear from you... And please do share details of the speaker of your Onkyo 609.

My speakers are already in place for some time now, I am using MS 904i as fronts and matching avant series centre and surrounds in a 5.1 setup. Have been owning them for almost 4 years now with an excellent cambridge audio 540r V3 avr which I sold yesterday to Mr. Viki, a fellow forum member(and a storehouse of knowledge on hi-fi equipment I must add), and now I am upgrading as this setup has ceased to be a music setup for all practical purposes, I only end up watching movies in my living room...so the upgrade bug finally hit me. I feel the speakers will more than adequate for a movie watching experience, plan to add the JBL ES250 sub later to take to the next level :)

right now it is costing me about 33308, along with currency surcharge and service tax on that on a citibank credit card. Their basic currency rate was pretty competitive though @66.77/Euro. Along with all costs it is coming to 69.4/euro. The euro amount to ship to India is 479.91.

Will the onkyo indian service center repair the AVR (if problem arises) if buy it from amazon.de ???? Asking this because read that onkyo avrs do have reliability issues. I too want to buy the 709 via amazon.de.
