Have set up a HT. Not happy with the sound. Now what ?

The one that finally got my business was the Rohini outlet.

But honestly, I think the 94 bucks cable is a gamble. I have bought it just to reduce the clutter of wires at my place. I do not expect it to be as good as the 500 bucks wires, which I may buy at a later stage. They are available at Croma outlet in Gurgaon (Palam Vihar).

I ma waiting for our resident experts to comment on them.

Till such time its not damaged, then it should work fine such as the 500 bucks one. Was it a brand new cable or a demo cable? Also are you sure its the right cable you picked? a pic of the cable and packaging will help.

Its a brand new packed piece. Pics attached. Please advice.
What did confuse me was the RCA RCA. But it also mentions Digital Coaxial Cable and hence I took the risk.

If I am not wrong, this is a simple cable with RCA connectors on both ends. I use the same cable as a simple monitor cable to connect my AVR to the TV for setting up purposes.

Though this may also do the job of being a digital coaxial cable, it may be better to look for exact models numbers when you buy from brands such as Bandridge. Many of the cables look the same.

Visit Bandridge Blue - The European connectivity specialist - Products for more details.

Cheers

Have set up the system with the "digital coaxial" that I bought and the HDMI. Tremendous improvement in the PQ.

Coming to SQ, how do I check whether Dolby and DTS work, since there was no Dolby mode in the channels displayed.

DTS and Dolby Digital will be displayed in the listening modes only if connected via a digital cable. Just cycle through the listening modes i.e. the DTS Neo and Dolby Prologic II modes and you'll come to DTS and Dolby Digital if the source DVD has them and if the source DVDP is connected via a digital cable. Otherwise they will not show up...

A new problem

A fresh problem guys.

I cannot access any of the listening modes except stereo and mono. Does that mean my digital cable is faulty ? Or some other setting that has been disturbed ?

No it must be DSP in AVR faulty.
As you get stereo, others shld be present only if DSP is corrupt.

I have just set up my HT and done with calibrating the speakers (with RadioShack SPL meter).

I plan to calibrate my TV using Spyder3TV during the weekend, any tips/help is appreciated. Thanks.

nshankar, this thread is about the original poster having sound quality problems with his HTiB. I suggest that you start a separate thread with specific questions about your TV calibration. Include information such as your TV type, model details, calibration software you're planning to use and the test patterns you are planning to use.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
