hd 66 or acer 5370bd???

For me, all boiled down to the budget because I am more of a music person than movie, the extra money saved will be invested in the speaker and avr setup.

I am sure 3D will be just a novelty for me too... may be 1-2 movies out of curiosity.

Do take into account the investment of 3d glasses too. For 1-2 movies you are better off in a cinema hall i guess ;)

Can get it from USA, its is just 28$ there... will buy only 2. Then there are some other privileges of seeing what they don't show in a movie hall ;)

That is a good point ;)

Did you also check with Acer support in your area?

I did a simple Google search for projector repair Bangalore, there are vendors, didnt specifically search for acer.

Two things can go wrong with DLP projectors, the white pixels issue in which case it is best to discard than repair. Second thing is lamp blow out, for acer, the bulb mechanism is such that it can be done by user. Just like how you change a light bulb. You need to buy Osram 185 Watts bulb which is available online at Indian sites too...

Changing the bulb doesn't need the projector to be opened, it comes out from top like a catridge.

I have again doubt,I read about W710 & it has 3X spped with 6 color wheel. Now same with 5370.So does W770 has 6X speed or only 6 color wheel with 3X speed.
http://hometheater.about.com/od/videoprojectorviews/fr/Benq-W710st-Dlp-Video-Projector-Review.htm

Just the 6 color wheel.

W750 is the new model from Benq and 770st is the short throw version. It comes with 2 HDMI 1.4 inputs, has a new lamp of 210 W.

There is a comparo on Youtube for W750 and 5370 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9swp_P8q1KQ

I havent checked it myself since Youtube is blocked in my office.

Not sure if this the right forum to post this.

But this weekend I saw my first "real" 3D (ignoring chota chethan and such) in a theater - Monsters University. Having spent a grand for the family it was a really bad experience. Saw it in Q cinemas in ITPL here..one of the multiplexes.

The color and 3D on my 720P only Panasonic 50XT50D is a million times better. The only thing good about a theater is the dark room..other than that the colors were lifeless...3D was pretty bad. It was almost like watching doordarshan with the added problem of a headache due to 3D glasses.

The color and brightness on my 5360 is a million times better - in fact my 5360 is so bright at normal settings, it lights up my hall better than my CFL :)

I tried using the monoprice convertor for 3D on my 5360 and wasnt impressed..maybe my setup wasnt right.

But overall I have decided on one thing....going to theaters after having experienced my projector...is a waste of time and money. I just hope more HD channels crop up on Tatasky
