hd 66 or acer 5370bd???

Hi Prasad,

Thank you for the informative post, good to hear first hand from someone who owns the projector... even I am not a fan of theatre, the hastle of going there, finding a parking on the nth floor, getting a seat in the first 2 rows and then the overly priced popcorn...

well this might not be the exact thread..but i want to oppose respectfully the idea..
theater vs home thetaer..
no HT unless very very costly can even be conidered to compete with a say..fame..etc
giant 300 inch..with A class pj and world class sound..with original dolby processors etc
we cant afford these in home..
however for some resosns i also hate theters..like prem mentioned..
getting good seats..really hopeless talkative and always watching their tab/phone people...god knows what they see.and why are they in theter than a resturant/joint.....overpriced trash food..

but i really cant say..coluors and brightness was bad in a theraer..i am a reguler in theaters...and have seen HT pjs in 2 lakh ranges...maybe someone dont like the film colours..but for their info..it is the colour mode..true high end pj brands like sim2/runco/sony high ends are fighting for to get close.....
pj should be pj.....not a giant tv

Well, some FM have dedicated HT rooms & I can say they clim to have similar OR better SQ than Cinema Theater. With a good dedicated room its possible. Also the system components should match perfectly. When I auditioned Yamaha AVR with Pulz speakers,I felt the same.

Yes,a large hall can give you better space, but recently I heard Paradigm sub/sat with Denon 1513 in small dedicated room, scene was from Jodha Akber & sound from that budget system was a treat for the price.

well with 422 reputation points..I cannot argue with you:yahoo: I am just an average joe..no black levels no calibration..I just watch a picture and feel happy...typically when I watch animation if its 2D I expect extra bright color which makes it fun..if its 3D i expect some pop ups/outs....all I was saying was that I didnt experience neither in the theater.

For example I have the LG demo video - the long one...when I play it on my TV, all my friends and relatives who have seen it cant stop praising....same goes with 3D on Hugo.

Just that I didnt experience it in the theater...may be the thousand bucks was weighing heavily on my mind:mad:

Since I have 4 3DTV glasses and 4 DLP glasses..hope someone can help me get the 5370 for 400 dollars:indifferent14:

For Acer H5370BD - One of reviews on amazon said - the color wheel conked off in 14 hours. I want to know if a such situation arises would it be repairable in India and how is acer support with respect to models not bought in india. Moreover this model is not available in India i guess.

At the same price which one is better to go considering repairing options available in India, if any?

Optoma HD66 or Acer H5370BD (Not much of a 3D fan)

A few months ago i borrowed Acer X1220H(XGA) projector from a friend for a day and found it to be too bright for my room (18X11) , projecting around 100"; at night. I had a mild headache after watching it for hardly 2-3 hrs.
Is it possible that these projectors are overkill for my room?

How much would the optoma hd66 lamp cost approx ? I suppose it would be easily available here.

I ordered the 3D corp DLP glasses, non-rechargeable ones and Blue rigger 25 feet HDMI Cable from Amazon.com. The 3D corp glass is compatible with my Acer H5370BD.

That was a good review, Thank you for the link Spiro, to summarize here are the words from the reviewer.

Pros

Inexpensive. Native 720p resolution. Two HDMI ports including one HDMI with MHL. 3D works directly with HDMI input.

Cons

Low volume with no audio output. No 3D glasses included.

Bottom Line

With a 720p resolution and HDMI 1.4a 3D support, the Acer H5370BD fully qualifies as an entry-level 3D home entertainment projector.

Now, the Cons he mentioned can be substituted, I don't think any serious Home theater setup will use the PJ volume, second you can buy 3D glasses for as cheap as 20$.
