As most people allocate 50k+ for some 1080p HD setup, but that is not always required.Read on for 'how'
the cost cutting list /decisions
1.Brightness and resolution:no need of 2000lumens ,we (me and companions)will not do daylight presentations, little dark room is possible .I am sure many can do this .I have fixed it to 200-400Lumens.

itz ok to have 720p native support for full HD
so WXGA ,I really enjoy 720p or smaller rip on led tv so "you must not have native1080p" .
2. lamp life should not make us feel hours of our life going
this point leaves us with two choices lamps with 5000Hour(Acer) life or LED
My favorite :LED .....cool and DIY'able
3.Noise:yes it has to be very less , fan noise is very annoying for many powerful projectors
LED guy will have quiet less heat generated, hope noise will b pretty less
4. Short throw:This is one often overlooked feature ,i suggest see in projectorcentral.com to get the idea of how big projection you
will get for a specified distance.
yes myroom is lil small so i want to have a good sized image in a small distance ..hmmm 90inch approx in 5-5.5metre or less is desired
However hall is real big for bigger possible image ,120inch will be a pretty cool with appreciable colors/contrast in full darkness.
5.Reputed & lowcost : here comes impossible looking point ,how muchlow cost ?say 15k..(;)
local buy -not possible import:100% possible , discount coupons will help
No china LEd33 etc,no diy chicken box units just dont want strange looks (giggle!)when people say my setup

6.portability and interfaces :Party at frenz place?,really easy to carry will be one good feature ,interfaces :
HDMI- must,default component,vga
USB playback from pendrive will be cool:clapping:

My hunt is completed ,
So whatz your guess , letme see how good are you at surfing/dealhunting

Some more gimmics also have been sorted out after study :

-3D projector :No
cant buy series of HDD for 3d rips,3d bluray will remain in 1k range for another 2years,just for one or two 3d trials cant spend 20k extra

-Pocket pico: NO
most of them dont do native 720p,also brightness is too low as of 50 lumens in low cost range

-ready made screen:No
diy will be much cheap,no rolling motors ,a manual rolling will be fine with el cheapo design
enjoy how easy it is :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0THdRLf6kU

Hi

What all mentioned i have done it with ACER K11 LED Projector costing around 17000 Rs brought in by someone from US and a DI y fixed screen of 6*4 for 3,500 Rs (Teak wood frame, Ply wood pasted with matte white lamination sheet) and results are too good to be true.

You missed 720p requirement and also the aspect ratio.

hv you managed to get the PJ in 15k .. if so great deal .. this thread has topping potential .. :)

hence a 2.0 system with PJ should potentially be possible in 30k .. ?

This thread has started when i am hunting for a projector with basic requirements. All your configuration will probably suit, but at Rs. 30000 range and vivitek QUMI Q2 seems to get good reviews for a LED model with 300 lumens and a max 90' diagonal. Many people say it can be further enlarged if your room is dark.

There are some downside on that as it does not have zoom functions and in my case with my room, i may have to place it on a tripod before the audience seating which may become uncomfortable as the wires will be lying around. If you mount this little piece on the ceiling, there is an issue with its focus shifting for the first few minutes, so everytime you want to watch something, you need to climb to get it in order. So, thinking........

Swami

swami Qumi is good but LED version of qumi goes 520USD,unless khanna uncle n family gets it will go 30k+ ,may be coupon deal may make it possible

I am not sure of focusing..some mini tweaks may not be big pain as it is highlighted in net, make sure u ask any owner of the device
for the guys with electronics knowledge there are LED replacements possible for the projectors w/o lamp

Damaged bulb projector + LED mod = some fun savings Guide is here ::

Hi

Though its native resolution is 858x600 Pixels it can handle a maximum of 1280x1024 Pixels. I decided to go for this only after going thru' Projector Central's review which rates it very high and its very much true. At present i am using it with my HTPC running XBMC as media player integrated with MPC to play blu ray iso files, my ps3, pioneer dvd player, and Tata Sky STB thru' Denon 1611 and it plays everything like a charm. In a darkened room results are too good.

Regarding Screen first fix the frame according to your size with 'L' clamps, paste the lamination sheet (matte white) on a thin ply wood ( lamination paste is available from timbre depots) then nail the ply wood on to the frame and paint the frame with black paint.

I will post some pictures soon.

Keep guessing..the projector will land soon

Future
if possible will add 2 false pillars for HT look
-some LASER sky will be done

for those i need to remove the FAN , 1 will keep 1 or 2 -silent cooling towers

WIP for HT room is here ........

Laminate DIY screen:The frame is ready ,the frame is as shown

,dotted lines indicate border fitting. The frame is made with automated machine for perfect level, the frame will hold laminate with glue .
Laminate type : matte finish white with a tint of yellow
just 500Rs for 8ft x 4ft size ,Diagonal is roughly 100 inch .
How to is here :http://www.htguys.com/news/2011/8/2/toms-diy-laminate-screen-project.html

image5.jpg

Felt carpet:cheap and best
The projector is in singapore, it will reach here soon ..keep guessing

TBD :

Fix black border
Make Flip to dim switch
Get LED rope for bind the screen glow
Many more..

Hi Kaushik

Nice progress and take care to handle lamination sheet since it breaks very easily.

Regards

sub
the laminate ? yup .. i am bit scared to finish the glueing , as i m not using ply to fully cover backside

Thin Laminate w/o any backing will be like an egg shell and will not last. Are you telling about the saving of 750 - 800Rs compared to the full laminate cost and the effort to change it incase of any damage?

Instead of a frame to support the laminate, the best and cheap option is to fix a 6mm/12mm ply to the wall and then glue the laminate and make a false frame made out of 12mm/19mm ply with black velvet cloth wrapping.

only ply fit one one has done, frame is needed i may go with ply........

Good news ::
Got LED projector :yahoo::yahoo: just 15 k

Are you building the frame for strength? If so, not at all reqd as the ply can be directly fixed to the wall (have a plastic sheet covering to prevent it from damping, in case) and a false frame for "black colored frame".

Congrats, Post the pics and the projected pics and your initial impression. Probably everyone can buy this instead of an LCD TV to use in bedroom.
