Help: Cerwin Vega Subwoofer Problem

Hi guys!

I have a cerwin vega avs-sub8. I was trying to switch it on after a long time yesterday and it didn't work. I checked the fuse port and saw the same broken. Luckily there was a spare in the port itself (very thoughtful of CV). I replaced it and switched it on. It came on and then went kaput in a second.

I thought to give it one more try. So I got local fuses from the market. The wire in those seemed thicker but i still used it. I turned it on and it came on and suddenly my rooms mcb dropped.

I then opened the plate amp and everything looks ok to my untrained eye (no black or burned things).

Any ideas?

The mcb tripping suggests a short circuit. Would not use a thicker wire for the fuse since that is meant to protect the sub! Get the dealer/manufacturer to service the sub if still under warranty.

It's very old. Contacted the india distributor. Awaiting reply.

Meanwhile if anybody knows a guy in Delhi NCR who can fix such things please let me know.

Definitely there is problem in/before power supply, should be in live stage. May be your Phase and Neutral are shorting from inside the sub because MCB is dropping. Mostly supply issues newer do it. Never try this again and again and contact any good repair guy.

It turned out to be an issue with Transformer winding. Got re-winding and it works perfectly now.
