Help Regarding HT

So which receiver u suggest around 20k ?
may be i add 2-3k more to it . That is why i was shifting to Philips DVD as that would have saved me 3-4 k . And i think i will go for Wharfadale 9.3 in my next upgrade so i will stick to 9.1 . But is dere appreciable change in 9.1 n 9.2 ?

Bro

Even in case you will be going in for Diamond 9.3 (BiPole Speakers) in future, but in any case you are not gonna throw your Diamond 9.2...
right...
Any how as 9.3 are bipole, they can only be used in for side surrounds, in a 7.1 setup...

Now.. 9.2 is better than 9.1, and the price difference is less..
so go in for that only..

Regarding the AVR.. go in for Denon AVR 1507...
you will get the same for Rs.22K approx...

Still try goin in for Pioneer DV 600 only..
As its better than any other in its class..

Well I already ordered Pioneer DVD player ,
Will buy Diamond 9.2 , and 1 thing i forgot to tell u is that my room is not very big in which i'm going to install this setup . And i will be diving my setup , so i am only buying 9.2 , DVD and Receiver.

And one of my friends told that Yamaha is better for movies than Denon , as Denon is more for music purpose. Is this true ??
I am very confused about the Receiver .

Buddy

Yes, your friend is correct...
If you are more prone to movies only.. than Yamaha is better...

Denon, takes it command, when there is a search for Overall Performance system, i.e. Audio & Video...

Same, way, the best to go for Audio only, is Cambridge Audio...

Buddy, when you say you have a small room, does that mean, you gonna, have 2.0 Channel setup only in that room...????

If thats the case, then you dont even need to go in for a AVR, better go in for Denon-PMA500AE - Integrated 2.0 Channel Amplifier...
That will cos you only Rs.16,900...
So the rest you can save...

Or

You are still looking at 5.1 system, to be upgraded later..
i am a bit confused by your term...???

Anyways, congrats, for your first purchase...

Well guys I have decided two Receivers

1 Yamaha 463
2 Denon 1509 or 1507 confused abt models ;)

Now as far my knowledge says they belong to same price range i.e 22-24k
And i need 5.1 system . Mostly will be used for movies but it can be used for music also . So overall performance is important . Now i dont know technical aspects so please help me , this will be powering Diamond 9.2

Hi Guyz,
I need from u all in zeroing down a good sytem for my home. Room side is 12 ft by 12 ft.
I??m basically interested in a home theatre system with a budget of around Rs. 65000.
Yesterday, I went to visit an audio expo called AV Revolution in Mumbai & some of the offers which I??ve seen are as follows.
1. Denon AVR 1509 + ProFx Fusion 5.1 package, cost= Rs. 40K.
2. Denon AVR 1709 + Polkaudio RM 705 5.1 satellite speaker package, cost= Rs. 59K.
3. Harman/Kardon AVR 155 + JBL CS 680 5.1 speaker package, cost= Rs. 60K.
4. Harman/Kardon AVR 155 + JBL CS 1500 5.1 speaker package, cost= Rs. 115K.
5. Marantz SR 5002, Cost= 40K
6. Sonodyne Sonus HT package, Cost=53K

Can you please kindly give me your invaluable opinion on these options. I??m interested in having this home theatre system for movies & music. Can you please tell me what AV receiver is the best for HT from Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon, MArantz & Harman kardon? Basically I??m confused with all these options? Can you please help me?

Thanking you,

Prakritish

so it's 40k till you die and mostly movies. Hmmm....then the Onkyo 304 + Jamo 406 HCS package (at Rs. 30,000) makes eminent sense. This does not have a sub, but the floorstanding fronts produce pretty decent bass. You can add a sub later for Rs. 10,000.

Buy a cambridge audio DVD89 1080i upscaling DVD player for 10k and your setup is ready. It does not upscale to 1080p however....this is only if you have a really large screen Full-HD television.

Do tell us what your TV is, so that this DVD player dilemma can be settled.

Hi psycho,

Yesterday I found Jamo406 set of 5 speakers costing Rs.16990/-
and
Onkyo SKS 4700(B)(Rs8990) + SKF 4700(B) CENTER/SURROUND PACKAGE (Rs4005) (Total cost Rs.12995/-)
Please advise which one is better for Onkyo SR 304E or Marantz-3001
Planning to add a SUB later on.

Thanking you,
abhilash

One of the most overlooked facts of Home Theaters is that all the greatest equipment in the world will still sound bad if your room acoustics are no good.

You should be prepared to spend at least 40% of your total budget on improving room acoustics. Low frequencys are the hardest to control but are the once that make or break your Home theater experience. For many people the neighbors are a important factor as well. Its great buying a powerful system but not being able to take advantage of that power can be frustrating. That is where sound isolation comes into play. So you see, when talking about Home Theaters it really is important to realize that acoustics do come into play. A Indian based Home Theater Consultancy Company offers some useful articles on their website www.espaceav.com and probably will design a proper Home Theater for those who can afford it.

ok thats it, just had to mention some acoustics here.

Please someone suggest as I have to take decision within next week.
I have listened Jamo in the listening room(very small) and it was good but as Onkyo 4700 were placed in a big hall (Big bazaar), I could not compare the two.

Abhilash

hey abhilash, i haven't heard the Onkyo combo so I really have no idea. You would need to try and compare them yourself to decide. Generally I would imagine Jamo would do a better job with speakers, as they are a specialist speaker manufacturer, whereas Onkyo is better at electronics. But at the budget end of the spectrum, this distinction may not be hard and fast.

One thing I can say is that the Onkyo seems to look nicer than the Jamo :) Even if one is in a big hall, you can turn up the volume a bit and concentrate, and you should be able to roughly judge their relative merits.

Thank you Psycho, One thing I have in my mind since long and would like to clarify that Sony HT DDW-5000 is costing 40k with following features:
----
185W x 6 + 200W x 2 (Sub)= 1510W
Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (D.C.A.C)
DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
Portable Audio Enhancer
Dolby Pro Logic / Dolby Pro Logic II / Dolby Pro Logic IIx
Dolby Digital / Dolby Digital EX / DTS Decoding
AV Sync
FM/AM Tuner with 60 Presets
---
And after going throgh so many posts what I found that even within 40k budget no one is suggesting to buy this.
As suggested by many I have also planned to go for following:
Onkyo+304E+Jamo HCS-406+SUB(TOTAL 40K)

Now the question is whether 2nd choice is qualititavely better than the Sony one or what?

Well now I realize that Sony model is loud with a lot of High Freq sound and less mid range+LFE.

Thank a lot. Its great that you are always available with your valuable suggestions.

Now I have arrived at final decision about speakers:
*Jamo 406 HCS 1( Combo of 5 with Rs16,990/- at Bog Bazaar, Ranchi)

But I need your expert advice about AVR. I have narrowed my selection to following 3 options that I would be shipping from Hyderabad. In addtion to that I am not in a position of auditioning any of them so please help.
1. Denon 1508
2. Onkyo505 (Rs 22000)(Ezone hyderabad)
3. Onkyo 506(Rs 19990)(Reliance Digital)

Will be buying sub. afterwards. Since last 1 month I have come a long way from Rs20000 budget to Rs40,000 Budget(Stretched to maximum) and a lot of knowledge just by going through posts of kind members of the hifi.... But again Require help for final decision.

Abhilash

Abhilash, is this the price at Reliance Digital in Hyderabad for the Onkyo 506? 19900 seems like a real good price. And where is Reliance Digital located? Thanks.

Go for the Onkyo 506. The latest comparable receiver is the 1509 from Denon, if you can find that for a competitive price, then you can consider that also, both are exceptional budget receivers, but the 506 is 7.1, if that matters to you, and feature one more HDMI input (for a total of 3). But the Denon looks much nicer :) and has a nicer looking remote also..... you won't go wrong with either, so it may boil down to price.

Dejavu,

Reliance Digital in Hyderabad is located on Road No. 12 Banjara Hills. Its just a little bit ahead of Ohri's just further down the lane. BTW this is if you know Hyderabad/have been here. Otherwise just buzz me when you are down here and we can meet up and visit the place.
