I use yht299 and tv is Sony w950. I I take the video output from AVR there is a drop in picture quality but if I connect the blu ray player or PS4 directly to the tv the video quality is much better. I use top quality and same mode belkin hdmi cables. Can any one advise on what to do here cause if I take audio out from tv there is a drop in audio quality

Instead of taking audio out from TV, take it directly from Bluray player/PS4 Optical/Coaxial outputs to AVR Optical/Coaxial inputs. This way your not compromising audio quality.

One of the Sony TV's HDMI port should have Audio Return Channel (ARC).. Connect the AVR's HDMI out to TV HDMI-ARC input(Should be mentioned)..
I don't think YHT299 would do anything to the video signals.. It would just pass thru to the TV.. Please check video settings (If any) in your AVR, and try to disable any additional processing..
This should not be happening. Maybe you are trying with 2 different HDMI inputs in your TV and picture settings are different for both?
In case any video settings are available on AVR, set them to "0".
If you connect PS4 directly to TV you will not get Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio from your AVR. ARC and optical do not support this high resolution audio which is available in most blu-rays.

ARC will return the HD audio to the AVR, but not optical.
You are mistaken. As of now TVs with ARC cannot output TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio. They only output Dolby digital or DTS.

Nope reju.. Any TV with ARC function will return the HD audio to the AVR.. I had my Sony TV & Onkyo AVR connected in this fashion and i had no issues getting the HD Audio on the AVR..
I too have read that some TV with HDMI ARC function return only stereo, but most TV today don't have this issue.
What do you exactly mean by HD audio? If you are referring to 5.1, then yes the basic Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 works through ARC. Most of the new TVs can output this.

Yes. You are right.. But it can also return HD audio codes to the AVR..
Dolby True HD & DTS HD-MA also works on HDMI-ARC. I have used my set-up like this..
Even if you select Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio on your blu-ray player, the TV ARC will output only Dolby Digital or DTS. So I suggest that you re-check on your AVR what stream it's showing and then get back.

I don't have an AVR right now, but used to play movies with PC via Kodi.. I had set it to bit-stream in PC -> AVR -> TV (ARC).
I have seen the DTS-HD MA on AVR display..

If you connect PC>AVR>TV then why would you need ARC? ARC will anyway not work in this case as you are already processing sound on your AVR. So obviously you will see DTS-HD MA on AVR display.
We are talking about a connection like BD>TV(ARC)>AVR. For ARC to work you need to set your AVR input to "TV". And of course you also need to activate HDMI (CEC) control on AVR and TV.

Right..Since TV HDMI ARC is capable of returning audio, i was believing that it sends the HD audio back to AVR.. But looks like AVR cuts the HD Audio and then sends the video to the TV..

This is little confusing.. I had connected my AVR (Main) HDMI out to TV HDMI ARC port and enabled hometheater as sound in TV audio settings.. Are you referring to different settings?
CEC is a different function to enable cross function with the same remote. Is it related to ARC?

ARC is used so that any device which is connected to the TV can output a digital audio to the AVR without using another cable between the TV and AVR.
Whenever we use the combination of Source> AVR> TV the AVR decodes the sound and only the video is pushed to the TV

Yes.. Thanks for the link.. But what happens when the AVR HDMI out (Main) is plugged to non HDMI ARC port of the TV? Would the AVR still handle the audio & video sent to TV?

In either case, AVR will decode audio and send video to TV,just like when bluray player is connected.If you keep "HDMI audio out" in AVR, both audio video will be sent to TV.
