I have been following this forum as a silent observer for sometime now for lack of funds to jump onto the incredible world of awesome audio.

Today though is different. I am actually on my way out to audition a couple of configurations at The Shop and Viola in Andheri.

Out of curiosity, going with an assembled system always seems to be the rule of the roost around most forums because of ease of upgradability and options, that is buying separate components and putting them together, though they seem to be more expensive when compared to the HTiB. But if I had to choose between the nicely packaged HTiB's and a configured option, what packages do I need to consider for price and performance sensisbilities?

I am not necessarily inclined towards any particular brand either so I am open to recommendations :)

Like everyone else, hd dth, movies off a htpc, games off a ps3 and music off the iPad/iPod/htpc seem like all I'll be using the rig for. Although i am not quite sure what else is left for an audio rig to cover :)

40k seems to be the max I can push right now for a rig. I have considered buying in parts and building up slowly, but will need some audio to go with currently as i just moved to Mumbai and my small apartment needs some audio!!

Help :)

Some updates for you guys if anyone is listening.

Auditioned the Denon 1312 + Polk rm705 (42,000 inr) and kinda liked what I heard.
Soon after, the guy at the shop got me to listen to the same Denon with ovm 3 bookshelf speakers hooked up to a 300 watt Polk base unit and although that was a 2.1 setup, it sounded so much more awesome than the packaged 5.1. This rig was costing me 50k in total. The base unit 18k, the ovm 11k and the Denon 21k.

And lastly, got a chance to listen to the Jamo tower speakers with both the Denon and a Marantz 7.1 (42k amp only) and was floored by the audio. If I had space in my apartment right now and could accommodate the Jamo towers to start with, I'd pay the 27,500 being asked for them and bought them blindly.

But since there is a space (and kinda budget constraint), I don't want to but I might have to settle for the Denon 1312 + ovm 3 setup + Polk active sub option or the Denon 1312 + Polk rm705.

What are your thoughts guys while I wait on my carpenter to come home and figure out making space for that huge ass subwoofer.

Since you liked the Denon 1312 + ovm 3 setup + Polk active sub option go for it now. Later you can add center channel and surrounds later.

hey Baiju
Thanks for taking the time to reply dude.
I have since changed my mind yet again and after much pondering and researching various websites like this one, i have kinda concluded that for the budget that I have, to get decent sound audio, you have to consider the percentage of listening to music to watching movies.

In my opinion, there is no better option for music listening that Floor Standing Towers. I heard a variety of them at Viola and then came to the conclusion that when compared to the OVM + Polk base unit, the Jamo's FS sounded so much more awesome. So i worked out a deal with that guy at the store, who btw, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Full credit to him for running me through things.

I have now upgraded my amplifier to a Denon 1612. This baby has almost all the features of the 1912 with a 5 lesser wattage rating on each output. Other than the airplay, its not missing much when compared to the 1912. One reason why I picked this and not the 1312 is cause of the USB. That'll shed the need to figure out how I'll be feeding most of my audio to this baby for everyday listening, which is the iPod/iPad. I do intend to feed it other HD audio formats, but thats only when I am watching some BluRay concert disk and the likes. But majority is still going to be off the iPod/iPad and the 1612 has a handy little USB slot that feeds through metadata to the HDMI from the iPod/iPad and I can control the unit from the HDMI if i intend to. Other nifty features on it that are comprable to the 1912 are the reason i went for it.

Now i am left to decide between the following options which I intend to hook up to the amp.

To begin with, there is still the Polk RM705 which is a pretty sweet deal for the price. It sounds way better than most of the Onkyo HItB's and or other configurable options out there.
Secondly, there is the Jamo Towers S606 to consider. At a price point of 27k, they are the real deal for music lovers. Comprable to the KEF's and the Klipsch ones I heard and definitely value for money. But they may not fit in my house cause they are huge and need some space from the wall as they are directional sub drivers in them which need that kind of space to perform.
Thirdly, there is the Jamo S406, the baby brother of the 606 which again for their price of 12,400 are incredible. Way better than the BS's that i was considering - OWM 3.

So there, its either:
1. Denon 1612 + Jamo S406 + Polk Sub 110 = 52k
2. Denon 1612 + OWM 3 + Polk Sub 110 = 49k
3. Denon 1612 + Polk RM 705 = 42k

I got to sleep over this.
Or take feedback from guys that own or have good or bad things to say about the aforementioned. Either ways, would love to hear your feedback :)
Thats what "forums" are for... :P
One thing is for certain, none of them sound "bad". heh.

Thanks in advance.
