Hi,
while doing general search on speakers, I saw some good deals in amazon (US site) for some good 5.1ch/ 7.1ch speakers from Energy 5.1 Take, Klipsch etc. While inquiring with their customer support, I got to know that these can be shipped to India but would cost another 60-70% additional charge on shipping & duties. Interestingly, in some cases, even with all that additional charges, the final price looked very attractive. For example, the Klipsch HD 300 Compact 5.1 high definition theater system was available for $240; the 400 series was for $414 (both w/o the shipping and duties).
I was also told that the amazon UK may have a different price & shipping charges.
Has anyone imported a decent speaker-set through amazon or any smilar online retailer? Is it worth considering at all?

I have never got any high end stuff but books, DVDs etc. Their service is real good and prompt. Once my book delivery got skewed (only received one of the two books I ordered) and they sent me both the books again.

As for speakers (or any other item), add them to your basket and proceed to checkout. Just before you make your final payment they will show you quote with shipping AND custom charges inclusive. A 'To Door Delivery' charge as they say. Their Policy says that if they pay less than the amount they charged you for customs and handling they will reimburse you the rest and if they pay more they won't charge you anything extra. ;)

Cheers

For some products Amazon has free shipping to anywhere in the US. You could check shipping the products to Borderlinx. From there the customs and shipping charges usually amounts to 40% of the product value. You could check with their cost estimator provided, apart from the cost, you have the packaged dimensions & weight of the product.

I am just curious if Amazon takes responsibility of the merchadise till it gets to you? So if there is some damage during the shipping process, will Amazon own up to it and resolve it with no liability to the customer?
Here is the US, Amazon is known for amazing customer service...

I have imported 2 Energy FS from shopyourworld who in turn bought from Amazon (fulfilled by WWStereo). No hassles. Only delivery time is 9-10 days.

Simple answer you cannot import speakers directly from Amazon.

However, you can use intermediaries like Aramex, Borderlinx, Shopyourworld, 20 north to make these purchases from Amazon.

You can actually :ohyeah:

Not all models but quite a few. if you are registered on Amazon, whenever you open a product page if will show you if the product can be shipped to your default shipping address or not. Also, once you add the product to your basket, it will show you all the applicable charges.

Cheers

someone posted a link once where internation shipping items were shown. now when I am trying with my noida address it says can't be shipped!
See this link - Amazon.com: Electronics: International Shipping Available

This list is inaccurate. There are many AVRs (e.g. Onkyo NR609) & HTIBs (e.g. Onkyo HTS5400) that are not listed there but can actually be shipped to India. I checked this by adding these items in the cart and then checking out the final price with shipping & duties. Also got this reconfirmed by their customer support.
Two of the existing deals were very tempting - Onkyo NR609 AVR for $678 & Onkyo HTS5400 for $786 - both including shipping/handling & duties. I wish I had the guts to go ahead and confirm the order for either ...

last time i check amazon was charging like $200 to ship the marantz 6005 to india.
