How To Turn Anything Into A Speaker

Yes that's an interesting development that's having more and more applications. It's been around earlier than 1996 when the British ministry of defense licensed NXT to use the design in audio products. Many companies have been manufacturing products since. Now available as a small exciter which can be attached to any surface. The sound quality being determined by the physical properties of the surface you attach it to.

If I am not mistaken , someone on this forum has already been experimenting with this a while ago and built a large experimental 'speaker'. Search the posts . You will find it somewhere.
Also look up (on Google) DML speakers . You will find lots of interesting information.
