None of us knows what it takes to run an hifi business successfully in India. Before we judge, please try and do the business and then decide right or wrong. Let's not get an accusation like tone wrt D&D.

Ishanbhai and Panditji with all due respect, don't discuss, just go abroad and buy. Distributors have no time for you and your logic. They make vast sales on a pan India level we cannot dream of. Remember as long as there is a huge majority who are buying at their prices, this discussion is just an entertainment value thing.

Why do you have a problem with a discussion, it's a free world, we'll discuss the heck out of it. If you don't wanna listen, then simply don't come here. I'm trying to under how it works and all you want to do is keep it in the dark. Why!?

Sir there are many nice dealer demo places in the country. Infact they are doing business and flourishing. They are very aware about AV technologies. Members should take the trouble if going to the correct dealer and get the items they require. They certainly aren't doing anyone favours here but then neither is anone here.
Also wrt to the huge population you speak of, it is buying at the existing prices, so discontent in small section remains weekend entertainment value.
 
Dear nosortf, if you notice the imports from Denon come in every month and hence my point of a huge market in our country... Denon has not asked the Indian importer to order 2 crores worth of stuff every month but the importer is ordering because they are selling those quantities every month. The importer is not stupid to keep ordering if they are not selling... If there is a container of amplifiers coming in every month from a particular brand, then they must be selling those and have the confidence that the new stock will also sell...

So inspite of selling those numbers, if the importers do not focus on after sales, then give us a reason why people should buy from them? And if people are buying at their prices, more power to them but at the same time if someone does not want to buy from them, it's their choice....

These numbers very clearly show the huge demand for such products in our country and it is the industry's loss if they are not able to tap that market.
 
Dear Ishanbhai, please discuss all you want. Come to the conclusion after the discussion and not enter it with a conclusion. That is not a helpful stance. It us a free country, but that freedom is extended to all, including those who may not share your viewpoint.
Like I said if you want to purchase and carry you are free to do so as no one can stop you. But please don't decide how much the individual can or cannot earn in his investment. That is his call. If you agree, buy if not bye. Character assassination is not the agenda on the group.

If it's really that cheap to import and if there really is a market for such items then why aren't more folks doing it?

Let's forget customer support, service and repair.

How much will it cost to import, put a profit margin and sell via the likes of Amazon, and other websites?

Some will be DOA or develop problems, and can simply be replaced. Now that might sound taboo, but that will work out cheaper than have a shop and providing after sales service. Instead simply replace the item that's within warranty.

Even keeping the profits reasonable and with low overheads, one could be making a killing.

The only logical conclusion of why this is not being done yet is, there is no money in it, and that would indicate the profit margins are very low, or there is simply no market for such goods in India.

Do that math. Enough interested folks (even from here) could band together and build a hugely profitable business just by importing and selling for reasonable profits, and without the overheads of dealers.

Offer 30 day returns, sell the returned items as refurbished at a discount, and everybody gets to be happy.

Unless of course the only logical reasoning being there isn't enough of a market for such goods in India.

Cannot be about the money... super junk like the super expensive iPhone sells a lot here.
 
In that case, please let us have our fun..Since the dealers are making enough money, it is fair if a small section crib and try and get stuff cheaper if possible...

Dear Panditji you are sorely mistaken wrt to company targets by manufacturers.
Primary reason for my statement wrt put the money and then comment.

But Hifimart.com can at-least try to do something different here.. Denon has two models for US.. The "X" & "S" series.. Hifimart should find out from Denon - Asia Pacific office, if "S" series has 220V model and they should make it exclusively online & undercut physical stores prices..

I don't mean Amazon itself being the seller... they rarely function like that. It's more of a portal for sellers and buyers to meet.

But if the economics are really so much in favor of the dealers then why not do what I've written here?

Anyone enterprising enough can and should make a killing.

I agree completely and you have echoed my thoughts exactly...
I did try and ask a 3-4 of my favourite manufacturers to allow me to sell but they said they already have dealers appointed and have contracts with them....So everything has to go through the distributors till such time their contract expires...
I have already conducted a couple of group buys wherein we have imported goods and after paying shipping and customs, the cost to us was way cheaper than the authorised dealer's price.. And the goods were imported through a retailor abroad where our cost included their distributor's and retailer's margin..Do the math on the profit margins then..

One more thing is lack of advertising, people need to know that there are far better SQ products at more affordable prices than Bose and Bose SQ. Our dealerships neither invest upon Audition facilities, After sales support or Advertising, that is educating the general public. So how'd you get numbers when people keep thinking that Bose SQ is final?
 
It is the job of the sellers to try and make available to the consumers good quality products at reasonable prices .. It is stupid to place the fault on consumers for not buying products at high prices with no after sales support or even a helpful attitude....

I know of people having bought Nagra monoblocks from the official dealer only for them to turn to junk when a fault developed and the dealer refused to help fix it... How many stories has anyone heard where a product has developed a fault and the dealer simply replaces it if within the warranty period.. Many of the dealers refuse help even when the consumer is willing to pay as it entails additional work with no return...
 
We can't go by whats mentioned on shipment, as everyone under quotes a price to save themselves from custom charges,insurence etc..

Actually I asked because a Tata sky unit is infamous for damaging HDMI boards of AV receivers.
That is the only reason I asked.

I would like to point out that I believe there are many nice demo rooms in India. Especially in some of the Metropolis cities.
 
Hi

If Tata Sky has optical out, feed the same to the AVR and Feed the HDMI cable to the TV....

Audio through Optical will work through AVR and provide the same effects...no risk of damaging the HDMI board of AVR....

However, TV will always remain a risk....least you can do is to use good spike guards, power surgers etc.....
