No worries gangasjith. :)

So, how hassle free are Amazon returns?. I have bought a few things but
never returned one.

I have decided to file for a return and go the ebay route.

Can some one suggest me a good 4GB RAM?. What is the
difference between DDR3 and DDR3L?.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is...

However, I'd highly recommend leaving feedback/review on the seller. At the very least it will warn other people.

My experience has been good so far with Amazon returns. Hassle free.

DDR3L is DDR3 memory but has lower voltages, (eg.1.35v & 1.25v). You need 1.35V DDR3L RAM. I think standard DDR3 RAM has 1.5V.

Thanks mgdelhi for the coupon.

I filed a return with Amazon.

I placed an order for the following items from ebay.

Intel NUC KIT DN2820FYKH Mini PC With Wifi Bluetooth Hdmi USB 3 0 Ports | eBay
Crucial Laptop RAM 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Sodimm CL11 PC3 12800 1600 MHZ 1 35V | eBay
Samsung 256GB SSD 6GBPS Solid State Drive 100 Tested Genuine 500 Already Sold | eBay

All worked out to Rs 16589 and on applying the coupon came down to Rs 14930.

I am taking a risk with the SSD (as there is no warranty) but I see lot of satisfied
people from this seller, hence for the price vs performance ratio, I decided to
take this risk.

As I had indicated in my earlier post NUC comes without RAM & HDD.
However with additional Rs.4000/- for RAM & HDD is not very bad.

You need to take care while selecting DDR3, which comes with 2 operating voltages. Here we need low voltage device. i.e.1.35V low voltage memory

Moreover the processor although mentioned as 2820, may be actually 2830.
That needs to be checked, because then for 2820 you need RAM with 1066 MHz SO-DIMM & if it is 2830 then 1333 MHz SO-DIMM.

The 1333 MHz SO-DIMM will work for 2820 but frequency will be limited to 1066 MHz.

It is also to be kept in mind that we need to update bios to suit, which OS you are going use. For that zipped folders for the bios are available on INTEL's website.

I received NUC just now from Flipkart, which I booked on 13th April eve.
Not yet opened. Will post my impressions after opeing/ unboxing.

My package was also picked up by Amazon today.

I should be getting the NUC I ordered from ebay tomorrow. However
I see no signs of my RAM or SSD being shipped. I hope to receive
everything by the weekend so that I can setup and experiment over
the weekend.

Opened the box. Here are the photos.
Today I will purchase 4gb RAM (Rs.2200/-) & 120GB ssd Rs.4000/- from local dealer & get it fixed from him & getting it worked from him, as I am not that techno-savy to make it work. More after successful implementation.

I've ordered a Celeron based NUC from the same seller as sivakuru has. Same RAM too. Thanks for the links, mgdelhi and sivakuru!

For the HDD, I'm sticking with a 500GB Toshiba Laptop HDD.

And thanks for the discount code, mgdelhi! That's what tipped me over the fence I was sitting on, for the last one week, heh heh. After all the discounts, the total bill came to just under 14K.

sivakuru, a friend of mine has bought Samsung SSDs from that seller before. You can be sure they will be ok. You can't beat the bang for the buck at that price!

Yup, it was gangasjith and mgdelhi who made me cross the fence and
buy the NUC. I had been contemplating the NUC for a while now and
it was gangasjith post/thread that ignited the flame in me to buy the
NUC, but that turned out to be a disappointment and got me frustrated
and then came along mgdelhi with the discount coupon and it opened
up a possibility from ebay and bingo, I got all the components at a much
better price.

Thanks for the assurance on the SSD, I was initially hesistant, as there
was no warranty, but there were so many +ve reviews on this SSD from
this seller, so I went ahead. It does comfort to know that some one
we know also had bought and it is in good condition.

BTW my NUC has arrived, but yet to get the SSD and RAM :(

I will be installing OpenElec on a thumbdrive and Win8.1 from SSD.
OpenElec so that I can watch movies (with HD audio) and Win8.1
for YouTube, JRiver etc.

I will update once I get all components and install everything.

Ultimately I purchased the 4GB RAM 1600Mz DDR3L Transcend make Rs.2200/- & SDD 120GB Kingston make Rs.4000/- and got assembly & installation done from the same dealer in Pune.
It worked flawlessly and very fast.

I will post further after my hands on overall experience.

I received the RAM and SSD and installed everything. The SSD is in good shape.
Installed Win8.1 on SSD along with Avast, kodi, rdio desktop application. Yet to
install JRiver. Installed OpenElec on thumbdrive.

The boot time is pretty fast, takes about 30 secs to the point I can start Kodi.
I had earlier used kodi on my laptop, OpenElec on other pentium system and I
used to see some stutter framerate issues, thought those were because of
processing power, anyways, this NUC plays all those flawlessly.

The original plan was to use OpenElec for movies and Win8.1 for rdio, JRiver,
YouTube etc, but getting to Kodi (via Win81 including 8.1 boot etc) seems
to be faster than OpenElec running on the thumbdrive. Besides my lenovo
n5901 wireless keyboard does not have fn keys to get into boot menu. I
dont want to use a wired keyboard nor buy another wireless keyboard. So
for now it would be just Win8.1 Kodi for movies.

I am very happy with the performance, form factor etc.

Thanks to sam9s, musicbee, gangasjith, mgdelhi who were influential
and helpful in one way or other in this purchase.

If anyone has any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.
