I have an Optoma HD66. I didn't have any backup so far and have recently added a APC 600 UPS to allow me to shut it down/cool down during power failures, which are frequent :(. My AVR is not on backup. During the power failure since the AVR shuts down, I see a flash of blue screen for few seconds but then don't see any light from projector , not even the blue light. However the projector stays on(due to UPS) with fan on and I can shut it down. Will it protect the PJ OR do I need to have a backup for my AVR as well(from PJ's perspective). Shouldn't there be a blue screen/light from PJ even if the AVR is off.

_Tnx

Shouldn't be a problem as long as the bulb stays on and you are able to manually turn it off. I get the PJ logo when there is no signal from AVR.

Thanks. But what worries me is that I dont see any light coming out of the bulb at all. no logo..no blue screen. I can hear the sound of the fan though.

What happens to the PJ when
There is power
AVR is in standby
No source is connected to AVR?

Do you still see the blue screen or there is no light?
I have Optoma HD66 but if the source is off, it stays in blue screen.
May be there is a setting which turns it off automatically when there is no signal, I am not remembering- check your settings menu fully

Having said that I can safely say that the UPS is protecting your PJ so there should be nothing to worry.

As your fan is still running, PJ is still having the power supply from UPS. you can safely switch the PJ off, no worries I think. What's important is you are cooling off the PJ before it gets switched off.

If fan is running, than no need to worry, as said above this might be due to settings you are not getting that blue logo.

Hi,
My though says to check the type of UPS protecting the pj -

If the UPS is just an ordinary backup ups the line transfer time(few milli seconds) is not sufficient for the pj to keep the bulb on.

If the UPS is online type...you needn't worry as the UPS provides continuous power with 0 transfer time

Check it out..

Yesterday when I switched on my PJ(Optoma HD66), I heard a pop sound and its won't power on. I thought it was the bulb but I checked with a local PJ repair guy and he told me that bulb is intact but its power IC/chip(what he told me) is blown out. Hopefully he will fix it.

I had a APC 600VA UPS(line interactive) connected which claims surge protection. But seems like it didn't protect it. I am wondering if I need to get something more reliable instead. Online UPS ? OR put main > stabilizer > current UPS? Please advise. Tnx.

I think it might be the rating of the ups. I'm using a basic APC 1000VA ups on my Panasonic PT-AE1000E since last 4 years without a problem. When I got the projector I had put a generic 600VA ups and the projector kept on switching off and on. I was told that projectors need 1KVA ups at least. I don't know the logic but it worked.

If you manage to fix the projector - When the power is on - try pulling the plug for the UPS-Projector and see if there is continuous power...

Better to get an online UPS.

Even I have experienced the occasional on/off with 600VA and surely I need to upgrade. But does the line-interactive UPS provide surge/spike protection.
