Hi - a friend is traveling to Japan (I guess tokyo) - he lived in Japan so should be able to go around easily.
Suggest good places to buy new and vintage stuff, as well as suggestions on what to buy?
I am looking for a tele, ortho headphones, but just suggest what else can I get from there. He MAY be able to carry some heavy stuff too as he is traveling alone.

Just check the voltage Anant as japanese voltage is odd 100 volts, not even 110 .experts pls confirm

Most Japanese equipment, costly equipment in particular should be able to handle downconverted 110V without any issues.

Amplifiers, CD players, DACs should be excellent buys from Japan.

Akihabara in Tokyo is the place to go. But I am not sure if it has vintage stuff. Japanese electronics retailers sometimes stock two types of electronics - one for the domestic market and another for overseas buyers. So voltage shouldn't really be a problem. Further, they also sell two types of items - one made in Japan and therefore costly. Other - made elsewhere and cheaper.

Akihabara is nice, but I didnt see any vintage stuff there.

Most of the OSD would be Japanese except for stuff marked for export.

Most universal voltage equipment play 100-240, however, getting a convertor for this range is difficult.

Hi
Having visited Japan, firstly things are very costly but choice is plenty, one has to make sure products bought are for India (export) unfortunatly most products available are now made in Malaysia or China so make sure it has the 'made in Japan' label

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
