Dear Friends,
I'm planning to build the Jean Hiraga Power Amplifier 30 +30 watts, I need a clarification about the power transistors they show in all the circuits that the transistors are mounted directly onto the PCB. Can i extend these transistors with wire as i don't plan to mount the PCB with transistors directly onto the heatsink. (PCB's will be horizontal on the base of chassis, not vertical on the heatsink)
Kindly advice in this regard if it will cause an issue or oscillate.
Regards,
carl Fonseca

Hi carl Fonseca,
To ensure safe operation, you can attach the transistors directly to the PCB. You have the flexibility to position them either vertically or horizontally, but regardless of your choice, be sure to utilise a larger heatsink; since it's a class A design, it generates significant heat. If you prefer to extend with wires, ensure they are no longer than 5 cm (opt for thick, low-inductance wires). While extending with wires does not cause oscillation, using wires longer than 5 cm can impact the input and output impedance of the amplifier.

Wishing you great success with your project.
cheers,
vishnu
