Here is an htguide forum thread where the renowned DIY speaker maker Jon Marsh describes an EQ filter for stereo speakers:
The filter itself is pretty simple. The thread describes how to do the Jriver implementation, MiniDSP implementation etc. Any software that supports cuatom EQ will do. Even though originally intended for speakers with nice flat power response/speakers with consistent off axis dispersion, it might work well for other regular speakers also.
Many people have found it be pleasing to their ears. I have applied it my own system and found it to be fun..
