Samsung LA46A610 vs LA40A650A1

Hi Guys,

I need to find a good LCD and based on my research so far, I decided to go with the Samsung. However, I have 2 models shortlisted. LA46A610 vs LA40A650A1.

LA46A610 is 46" and only 5K more as compared to LA40A650A1 which is 40". Now, I tried to compare based on the specs available at

LCD TV - television SAMSUNG

and

Compare India - Televisions - Samsung-LCD Projection 61L2 (155 cm)

and I see the following differences when I did a comparison at Samsung. Any thoughts and ideas would certainly be helpful.

Go for the 46 incher, the difference in features is not much, and 6 inches of screen real estate is worth much more than all that stuff, so go for the 46....what are the prices you are getting for the two?

I checked the prices on the Samsung website and LA46A610 is 1,14,000 and LA40A650A1 is 1,09,000.

I may be able to get a discount but the price difference primarily should stay same

I called a dealer (Adishwar's Bangalore) few minutes back and here're the prices he quoted

LA46A610 - 99900
LA40A650A1 - 95000

Go for 46" A610 !
You can also consider A550 which exactly the same as A610 technically, You will same more then 10k, which you can invest in an HD Upscaling DVD player or Home Theater.
But A610 has a different frame and an HDMI extra.

okay, go for the 46, and try and beat the price down, i am sure he will knock off at least a couple of thousand bucks off that price. The compareindia.com best price for this set is 93,500, so 95-96 is the highest you ought to pay for it.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread on continue this one.

I had decided to bring the 46A550 home when this thread caught my eye. I didn't realize there is another 46" (46A610) model between the 46A550 and the 46A650. (See, that there is a clear example of how this forum benefits its members )

So I head on to the Samsung India website and compared the two models. And the only major difference I could find was that the 610 came with a HD Tuner (useless - since there is no HD broadcasting in India). Ofcourse the 610 looks a bit more elegant and polished than the 550, but the contrast, refresh ratio, brightness are all the same. So, I was wondering is this all that you get for the extra 15K??

The quote I have for the 46A550 is for 80K with a couple of freebies. My plan is to fore-go the freebies and beat down the price by another 2-3K. I think I could probably get the 46A610 for just over 90K. So at first I was a bit excited to be able to get a Series 6 for that price, but on closer look it seems as if the 610 is not really a Series 6, but really a Series 5 with a HD-tuner in a better cabinet. I am thinking I'd rather save that 15K and put it into a better A/V receiver.

Did I miss anything??

from all available evidence it looks like you are spot on. The 610 is probably the 550 with a better cabinet and a HD tuner. You could walk into a samsung store, or call up samsung support and confirm this. The starter of this thread should also consider the 46A550

LA46A610 seems to be HD-Ready and LA40A650A1 is Full HD.

I called Samsung earlier,

Samsung says

"though LA46A610, LA40A650A1 show resolution of 1920 x 1080 it's only panel resolution.

However, the internal resolution is higher in LA40A650A1 as compared to LA46A610"

Sorry I forgot the resolutions he mentioned but I think I would go for LA40A650A1 instead of LA46A610.



Also, some places in Samsung website say that LA46A610 is HD and some places it says it's FullHD

I'm truly confused and will knock on the showrooms doors this weekend or next and see it for myself.

hey the 610 and also the 550 are both FULL HD. Same as A650. Don't worry !
sales guy knows nothing !
