LCD 32" Sony Bravia V series vs LG Jazz vs Samsung series 5

I think what Sai means by"fine and very fine picture tuning details which are greek and latin to Sony"? are the WHITE BALANCE and COLOR SPACE controls in samsung TVS which are only present in higher end Sonys :)

if thats what he means, then i must say this for a confirmation.

i have a KLV26T400A. It has "White Level" enhancer options SEPARATELY. if a 26" LCd has it, then almost all other LCD models from sony will have it. isnt it? plus the color modes of sony are good enough for all sorts of viewing. plus the color balance thing is available via a hidden service menu. very few people actually use it, coz its only meant for experts.

so i really dont know what all "fine tuning" things one needs!

I really appreciate the fact that you are an ardent fan of Sony. To be frank, im a big fan of Sony. All my AV products right from my portable CD player of yesteryears to my Car audio, to my 29inch TV, to my HDMI DVD player and my hi fi music system. Only my LCD and my Home Theater are different.

Frankly speaking the difference between these two brand of LCD's like in the eyes of the behold. The specs may be varied and huge but ultimately your viewing experience decides.

I have looked at Sony V and W series along with the 5 and 6 series of Samsung LCD's with the HD content and more or less similar settings and found that Samsung was sharp and crisp. Also the most important factor in deciding on a LCD, the Black and White levels were superb on the A550.

The contrast ratio's mentioned by the manufacturer is the dynamic contrast and not the actual one. No manufacturer gives the actual contrast ratio. But i think for a 32inch LCD, dynamic contrast ratio from 15K-20K will be fine.

By the way what is your LCD model? Also do you get the slight haziness in the picture with DTH connection?

i'm having a KLV26T400A. I'm living in an apartment, and my room isnt big, so had no option to go for a bigger LCD. By the way, whats the use of buying a full HD tv when I'm not even using Blu-Ray, or any high def content so to speak! (An hd ready tv will work just fine for me till the turn of the next decade or so! :) ) I have LG DV388 dvd player, and I'm using a JAE HDMI cable version 1.3b, so that helps me upscale to around 1080p. (Although I'm not sure if its actually true 1080p! I mean nothing can upscale a 576i resolution to 1080p, can it? Thats like asking a VGA pic to be upscaled to a megapixel pic! :) )

i tested samsung series 4, 26", and all of sony's 26" models (both S series and series T). the samsung models have a wide color range and i think the color pattern was really good and sony's red wasnt as good as samsung's. but apart from that all other colors just glued me to sony. I'll tell you something, green was never my favourite color, but after seeing the "nearly pure" green of sony, i think i am going "green"! :) the green is truly awesome on sony. apart from that, the sharpness, the backlight and the contrast features, especially the darkness was far far better on sony. (here's how i did it, i paused both tv sets to a particular frame of the video, and reduced the color levels of both tvs to zero. now i compared the darkest and the brightest spots. i repeated this 5 or 6 times for different frames to check the "actual" contrast ratio. in all cases i found sony to be a better performer, both in black and brightness levels.) i used a dvd of seabiscuit and a dvd of casino royale to test both the LCDs. the only thing that got me into a dilemma was the fact that samsung had awesome looks, and its remote and connectivity features were better. plus the dealer was a little bit pushy in terms of samsung i dunno why, maybe bcoz he had a better commission or something.
however, after deep thoughts i finally narrowed down to sony.
I finally went for series T as it had exactly the same panel contrast ratio as the S-series, and exactly the same Bravia 2 engine, so really didnt matter. as far as the connectivity is concerned I'm happy with just one HDMI option coz that helps me connect my LCD to my DVD player. I also use a component cable to connect my DTH STB to my LCD. and considering the fact that we might have 1080i (thats the max resolution of DTH transmission anywhere, my component cable will do me the trick!) so one HDMI port works just fine for me. plus I have a Philips 5.1 HTS, which helps get a decent amplification (although I am considering buying an AVR in the future).

i play full dvds (4.5 gb) most of the time and the performance i get out of my LCD is breathtaking. seriously speaking, i couldnt have asked for anything better.

finally, i am having Big TV DTH. i went for that and not tata sky bcoz it had the component cable connectivity unlike tata sky. so it offers "marginally" better images! :)
to counter the haziness i have increased the sharpness of my LCD for DTH and have decreased it to around 5/100 for HDMI. that works just fine for me.

all in all, i'm a very very satisfied sony customer. (btw, i previously had a samsung CRT tv as well as a Samsung monitor, so i'm not completely alien to samsung.)

As regards to 32 inch LCD, my vote goes for the Samsung A550 - 5 series, full HD LCD. This LCD delivers stunning pics. The sound may not be great as does all the LCD's. The colours are true and richer.

Samsung was the OEM of LCD panels for Sony till last year before sony got their own panels.

So i would suggest you go in for a Samsung Full HD LCD unless you are not obsessed by the SONY brand name.

well if u look at the reviews its the sony that have the best colors while samsung colors are less natural, but some people go with what their eyes tells them.

sony still doesnt build their own panels their 32inch and 40inch panels are from samsung(models like T series and U series may have a AUO,CMO panel) and 37inch panels from AUO.while samsung is know to use different panels from CMO(SMVA),AUO(AMVA),samsung(SPVA) in all their 32inch tvs except to a lesser extent in series 6,the samsung 37inch uses a CMO panel while the sony 37inch tv use AUO panel which is better then CMO.
samsung usualy dumps tvs with CMO in india and other asian countries, while countries in europe and US get SPVA panels after many review sites and customers made a issue about samsung panel lottery ,just do a google search u will find all the info about it.
CMO panels based tvs usualy have washed out colors, and less contrast.

well its actualy the sony that has deeper blacks and white which explains why it has a better contrast and also pretty much confirmed by all the review sites and magazines out there.

well unlike samsung,lg etc who dont mention the static contrast sony does say the static contrast in their website.

well a tv with a dynamic contrast of 50000:1 like mentioned by LG will have less 1000:1 static ANSI contrast, while sony and samsung tv easily cross the 2000:1 ANSI contrast and sony typically has the edge.

SAMSUNG/LG may be good brands, what I dislike about them is they think Indians are fools and try to bluff us by giving false figures like contrast ratios, as mentioned earlier by some forum members.

Samsung also has habit of copying sony designs. I have seen a samsung model just like sony X-series with glass panel.

Are you implying that the SONY 37" S Series which is HD Ready also has a AUO panel? How can one verify this when at a EZone or a Reliance Digital?

yes sony 37inch does have a AUO panel, well the contrast shift in AMVA panel is less then SPVA ,sony and samsung dont make any 37inch lcds in their joint manufacturing plant, based on reports by semiconductor and electronic magazines on the order given to AUO by sony for 37inch panel .while samsung on otherhand uses a CMO panel in their 37inch seen by the slightly washed out colors, and by the fact that their previous 37inch models used CMO panel.
the newer models like S5??A or V5??A which will be launched by or around august(based on the dates at which V and S series are launched over the years)the upcoming V or S series 37inch ,will have a FHD AUO panel.

Hey I picked up Sony S series KLV-40S400A for my parents. Their 29" Wega had conked off, tube was gone, so there was no point in repairing it. Got Rs. 1500 for exchange. So had to shell out Rs. 62.5K.

My brother was all out to buy Samsung, and I had to convince him to look closely as Sony, finally the rich deep colours convinced him! :clapping:
Samsung was only more bright and aggressively sold by the salesmen, as they had more margin on it..

Congratulations! Good choice!

Please post in detail your experience with the KLV-40S400A. Did you consider any other SONY series? This model was selling for Rs.69K in Ezone & Reliance Digital. Where did you get it from? Did you have to bargain a lot?

LG-32LG80FR - around 35k from LG dealer
LG-32LH70YR Scarlet 2.0 - around 40k - max volume output is really low
Samsung-LA32B530P7R - around 39k

Please help me zero in on to one.

chose between the lg80 (Jazz) and Samsung b530 - LG Jazz because it is the only LG i recommend and has great PQ and SQ and good to be used as a computer monitor as well, Samsung because i checked it out with other TVs in that segment - the details were there and the colours looked great (Pic was a little soft but very much acceptable)

dear adder & frnds

suggest tips for best view&long life 4 SamyB530

for realy long life just clean the lcd regularly once in 2 months,by using a vaccum cleaner to blow the dust inside the lcd tv blow air through the vents, heat is the no 1 killer for any electronics so if there is dust on the heatsinks or that matter even a capacitor it wont dispate the heat properly, also keep the backlight to low settings or if the tv has a light sensor turn it "On" and it will adjust the backlight according to the room light conditions.
