Listening Impression - Shanti's System

Manav

Clearaudio+Accuphase+Ressurection. Truly mouthwatering hi-fidelity!

I am really happy about your latest upgrade. I believe the only major upgrade required in your set up in the future would be a suitably big and suitably damped room. But this a great step up the stairway to heaven. Enjoy!

Good you didn't part with the Accuphase amp. Seemed like a rushed move which you may have regretted later.

The Resurrection Speakers arrived

Spinning my Fav Fleetwood Mac LP - Rumours....

It sounds fantastic. The speakers are so 'alive'.

The ribbon module is just plain incredible!

I love Fleetwood Mac too...
I am so glad to learn that the speakers travelled safe.
Just hope the Allnic Pre travelled safe too. That will be in ND by this evening - so I have been told;;;
:o

Congratulations Manav, I'm so happy for you. Now make us happy by sharing pics of those pretty babies.

Sir,
You stay in ND;
Why Pics ?
Just go and see - rather listen to them.
Take your 'audio' friends too.
I am sure Manav will be OK with the idea....

I would love to know what you think of the speaker & the set up in general...:)

Sir,
I did not understand;
I jst want you to visit MM & listen to the speaker, that way you will get an idea of what I had got made;
Then you can form an opinion if you liked it or did not like it.
Basically it is a 'flavour' & I just want you to experience it - that is all.

p.s. Take your audio friends too - so that they too can form an opinion...
I believe that it is a super chance to listen t a Alain Bernard - BEE Engineering - Ribbon Tweeter ! Must capitalize on that chance;;;

Hi Guys,
Yesterday at about 11.00 A.M I went over to Bhagwans house for an audition of his set up. Will not get into the details of his set up as that is known to all of you!

He has broken most rules of HIFI !!!! Speakers are rear ported BUT stuck to the walls, Tweeter is about 8 to 12 inches above the ear in a normal listening position, speakers are spread about 8 1/2 feet apart but the listener is only about 5 ft away, there are many glass frames on the walls some at crucial reflective points, you sit with your back to a wall (untreated) as in there is no space behind...................

That said I was totally taken in by the sound of his HIFI. Bhagwan stays 5 mins away from me and is such a popular AUDIOPHILE that i had heard about his set up from no less than a dozen people!!!! What i expected and what I heard first hand are quite contrary.

The sound is very musical, no trace of any harshness (no power conditioning at all) good stage( great height which amazed) and very involving. Great ambiance & natural air. NO HYPER DETAIL rather a relaxed presentation where you will be sucked in. Great integration (as good as it can get) of the two subs into the mix where its presence is understated but felt.

His listening room is just too difficult to work around but what he has achieved is nothing less than amazing. This was the first time I had truly heard the DCS. I think it is fantastic. I have heard the ESOTERICS, ACCUPHASE, CARYS, EMMS but this is something else. The canasya s look & sound fabulous. Truly impressed by the amps though they sounded better here than the other two places I heard them. His cabling is absolutely top notch. Was wondering how this system would sound IN IDEAL CONDITIONS if it sounds this good as is.

I was wondering how much THIS KIND of cabling is adding to the mix? Is this layering, seperation of instruments, etc only achieved when you spend big money on such cables?? I for one have cables from the usual suspects (kimber, cardas, transparent) and not even the top of their respective ranges . Am not advocating that one must spend or that one must buy these exotic cables but just wondering HOW GOOD THEY TRULY ARE? Am sure Bhagwan has gone thru all the regular options before settling on these as I saw some modest VDHs lying around!!!!

In the middle of our music listening we cut off the subs. You could feel more clarity, more transparency BUT you lose some impact.

Had a lovely sunday morning & would hope you make it over to my home soon. Your collection of music amazes me. If the recordings are fabulous the entire experience is lifted and boy you do have some superb classical recordings!!!

Thanks for the hospitality, the SUPERB TEA and your time
Rgds

PS Yes Bhagwan that is the same motorcycle I intend to buy. I think it will do almost what the liter class does at a happier price tag!!! The Green color is upsetting though!

Sir,

I want to start by stating it was a pleasure to meet you;
I enjoyed the morning we spent......Although I had a 'quasi' hang over from China House - previous night - it was a morning well spent !

I am thankful to you - for your kind comments.
You were very truthful & forthcoming - that I appreciate.
Sub On & Sub Off - what you said was very true - shows 2 things - [a] you do not mince your words & you 'can hear' !!
I am happy & satisfied to have met you, we have a few common interests & I am sure audio will go a long way between us - so will music....

I never knew you were a Western Classical listener - else I would have only played that all morning - instead of the 'usual suspects' we spent 2 hours with....

Yes, the dCS Scarlatti is a great machine.
I really like it & am 100 % satisfied with its performance.....

Cables do matter.
I have learnt it the 'hard way' !!!
The Bertram Optima RCA 2.0M is with you - listen & let me know what you think. The 'truth' would be appreciated......
I have lots of cables I can lend out - not for sale - just to 'experience' so that you can form an opinion - for your self - based on your personal listening in your own set up;

You know, rules are important - they are pure physics & that cannot be changed - they are universal rules - but sometimes just thinking out of the box can get results that would surprise - sometimes - if luck is on your side & allmighty wishes it to happen !!

I will visit your place - either this week or some time in the coming week post 2100 hours - will call & come. Only 2 of us - do not call any other person, I want to do some 'private' listening...Thanks.

hi dinyaar bhai and bhagwan

I want to know since long how is this magical sound achieved specially since all the basic rules of setup are not followed here. E.g speaker placemnet and listening position

Is it the electronics, cabling, rack togather translating into such sound. Ofcourse we cant forget the recordings

Pleasure was all mine truly!!!
I hate SUBS!!!! You for one are open to try anything as you said yesterday & that is the way to be BUT sadly I always have preconceived notions so I would shudder with the thought of a SUB for stereo as I will always feel it cant keep up. I saw & heard what a good sub does in a great HIFI. I can see what it brings to the table but I also heard what it took away. I guess one can use it for certain type of music while maybe switch it off for say a sonatta to hear the utmost transparency.
I thank you for letting me try the Bertram Copper IC. I will call you later today for an opinion on that.
Yes I love western classical for sure . I brought along the three cds I heard all morning just before I came over to your home as Its fresh in my memory. Though I do hear Cafe Blue in some of my auditions too as it has some parts which can sound screechy , noisy , harsh if the system is ill balanced.
Once again thanks & come over at your convenience.
Rgds

The Recording is common to all;
I have it - you have it & anyone can get it.

Reproduction of Music is dependent of a few things - the biggest imho is Room.
If you have a 'good room' then 50 % of the Battle is won !! Krishna is on your side - so to speak....

On a realistic front - I have the Kaurav Sena with me - the room is atrocious & there is nothing I can do about it.

The Gear is doing what it can - but I feel that the dCS is not in a position to show its true colours - there is just not enough space for this system to 'develop'
Ideally I would like 8' behind the speaker & 5' on either side of the speaker.
Speakers to be placed 9'6" apart & sit 10' away from the speaker - that remains a 'piped' dream for me;;;;but alas.

As I mentioned in my post, I do not know how this set up plays - just GOD is kind - that is all I can say. There is no Technical Reason I can give to state - why it works - but what I can get - I am happy with - given the room I am currently in......

Long time ago (may be 20 years) when i was at my native place at Kerala, i had seen a relatives small room damped with some kind of cow dung. When i asked him why, then he told me there were lots of reflections in his small room which he wanted to get absorbed for his i think Cosmic speakers. Cow dung was his obvious choice as it was free of cost for him and labours available for him to do the required treatment.

There you go;
No acoustics book will ever write about this.
However, it must have worked for the person in Kerala......

Hence I say, what works for a person is perfect.

Sir,

That is a 'super' deal !! Rs. 10/- L i.e. :indifferent14:
I was under the impression that it was @ 43/- K US $'s
So Rs. 24/- L would have been suggested retail + VAT.

This will give an idea to you :-

Tidal

;)

24 lakhs for a pair of bookshelves.. quite a passion you got there (and wallet!)

Moral of the story: bullshit works :)

:lol::lol::lol: HAHAHAHA

Hey...how did the Allnic home demo go??? I heard them some time back and it was one of the best that I've heard (though I haven't really heard a lot of true hi-end).

They are insanely priced but 250K INR seems a fair price while still remaining waaaaaay out of my reach...
