Listening Impression - Shanti's System

Try changing some cables etc... I feel that the TAD are extremely detailed with absolutely no warmth. The DAD, though i have not heard it, would be very cold and neutral too (being studio grade)... now if your cables are in the same vein, then its bound to sound like you have mentioned.

But, then it also also entirely be that the Accuphase sound just does not do it for you!

Sir,

The Source is 'common' [My Computer]
The DAC has changed from dCS to DAD.
The Digital Audio Denmark is a Studio Reference in Europe - most top end studios in Europe use the AX-24 - so its credentials are 'good'

I have heard the CC [Cadence Canasya] with 2 pre's
a] dCS
b] Allnic
It sounds very good with the dCS & sounds good with the Allnic

The E-550 has replaced all of the above.

Mind you - it is a superb amplifier.
I have no complaints about its performance.

It drive & power delivery are super.
What I miss - if at all is its 'grunt' - all things are very smooth. It performs like a Ballet Dancer - great performance - however, what I need [sometimes] is some Flamenco Dance - on certain kinds of music;;;Sorry for this obscure example.

Many of my audio friends have liked the Accuphase & some have not liked it.
1 person thought it was the best my house ever played & another hated it & said it was the worst he ever heard in my house - incidently both were Bawa's [Parsee]

All said, the Accuphase is a great product.
The Int Amplifier may be the best [at least on of the] that money could buy, but it may just be a bit too laid back for my taste.....
Not so sure, but I may have to get the CC & Allnic back;;

I will listen to the CC & Allnic & then decide which of the 2 I want to hold on to..
BTW - I have purchased the Allnic from a friend of mine. He was using the Music First Audio Pre [Passive] from UK - so the Allnic was free & he was kind enough to sell it to me.

BTW - My Martin Logan Subs are 'moved' out & will list them soon - 1 pair i.e.

Accuphase E-550 will be listed for sale - soon.

Will post pics soon...

One thing I have never figured out, Shanti, in many of the posts...there are references to TAD and there are references to Tidal, interchangeably...these are two different companies (which I am sure you are aware of but perhaps not others). TAD - Technical Audio Devices and Tidal Audio of Germany. Do you perhaps have pairs of both?

I believe TAD in this context refers to "Tidal Amea Diacera", the top of the line bookshelf from Tidal Audio

Hi Bhagwan,

I noticed that your CC amps are now sitting on wooden platforms vs granite (??) earlier.
Care to share a little on this and if there is any significance to the sound?

I would never have let go of the dCS stack. But kudos to you on that count - you really are ruthless.

Respected Sir,

:clapping:

I appreciate your observations;

a]
The dCS was sold - September, 2012

b]
The Wooden Amplifier Stand is my 'old' stand.
It is made of pure Zebrano Wood - African.
I just wanted to use it - will revert back to my 'grey stand' soon - this is just installed for a change..

c]
The grey stand was / is a special stand that I made - DIY.
It is not Granite.
It is MDF + Ply + Real Wood + Thermacole etc.
Automotive paint finish.

d]
I cannot comment on the sound - since lots has changed :-

1
dCS Out - financial reasons - still the best digital gear I ever owned or heard;
2
Allnic [Pre Amplifier] in [purchased it - 1 month back]
3
Bertram I/C Out [Silver Proxima] - financial reasons
4
Audiaz - Silver I/C In [pure financial decision = Bertram was far better]
5
DAD - AX/24 [Digital Audio Denmark] DAC was added in the chain.

e]
Speakers too are for sale - if someone wants one of the best 'stand mounted' speakers in the world - you know where to come;;;My T.A.D. i.e. [Tidal Amea Diacera]

f]
The Accuphase E-550 too is for sale @ 50 % mark down - less than 200 hours used....The Best [highest] rated integrated amplifier in the German Press = Pure Class A from Japan.

bhagwan thanks for the detailed reply. I would be very interested in knowing more on the special stand.
Currently I am working on stone based platform on FM prem's suggestions.

Any particular reason you went with the E-550? Perhaps the E-450 might have been a better fit as a replacement to the CCs.
Anyway since you have the CCs back "all is well".

What can I tell you;
This is my idea [philosophy] of how am amplifier stand should be made - however, FM Prem is an experienced person with decades on knowledge in audio & what he has done / advised you will surely work - you are in 'safe' hands;;

Accuphase E-550

I was in a 'down' size mood.
Hence was keen to get to an Int Amplifier.
I generally 'trust' German Audio Press - more than others;
In their opinion the Accuphase E-550 was the 'highest' rated amplifier - amongst all that they had reviewed.
Therefore I chose it.
Besides, it was also the top of the line amp from the house on Accuphase - now the E-560 is [newer model] !

In any case, the CC's are back & boy am I happy.
It is truly a superior product - it gets my vote - hands down...
:clapping:

The Allnic Pre too is not bad - I have found new respect for it - a bit expensive @ [US $'s] 10,500/- Retail [Rs. 600K] but @ 200K [what I paid] it is a nice pre...excellent build & functions OK imho;;
:D

.... & boy am I happy....

This is a word that we just do not see often enough in most audio forums. It is great that you are content at this point, and can enjoy the use of the system. After years and years of chasing "something", I too feel that I have reached a state of happiness with my Behold/Memory Player MP64/Marten Design system. These are not the latest products (although updated to the latest software of course) but finally I have reached close to where I have wanted to be in terms of tonality, timbre and weight of the instrument I am hearing. Yes the soundstage is there and precision of placement etc., but that was always available from many earlier systems. But it is hard to get a piano to actually sound like a instrument with a 9 foot vibrating sound board, and produces notes from felt hammers hitting strings that decay in space. There is a great richness of sound and as a pianist myself, I was never really very satisfied with many earlier systems. Finally, now I feel wonderful listening to a piano on the system and it instills that feeling of happiness listening to my music.

Isn't this what audiophile passion is all about? :) Glad to hear you are enjoying the system....

Hi Nikhil

PL use only sandstone or soapstone. All other stones will ring

Thanks again prem. Having a little trouble finding sandstone at the moment. Most of our stone vendors have granite, marble, etc. Any idea what sandstone or soapstone is called in Hindi?
