hi,

i have old kenwood lsk300 speaker running on Norge 2060 amp.It has 8ohm woofer which is not working.The tweeter has capacitor connected to it and a single inductor to woofer.It seems the inductor is burnt up,i cannot check it's rating.Any suggestion for replacement specs.

You can check the resistance of the inductor with a ohm meter or a simple LED connected to a 1.5V battery. If the led glows the inductor is not burnt else the inductor is burnt. To check the rating of the inductor you can take the inductor to any of the transformer winding guys and ask him what SWG (guage) the wire is. Lower the guage more the current handling. For eg. a 22SWG wire is suitable for amplifiers till 75Watts RMS but high quality inductors can have lower guage than this.
 
if you have the lcr meter, measure the inductor in the other speaker.
can you post a picture of the burnt inductor. just curious.
 
Is there any other way to measure the correct Inductance? Inductance measured in mh and their value is in point like 0.0025, 0.25. 1.5 etc. So if we you used Inductor with little bit different value than original one then what happen? And I read in many thread that Inductors depend on wire gauge as well as quality of wire (copper material in it), so can you explain this?

Change in the value of the inductor from the designed value will shift the cross-over frequency causing either an overlap of frequencies or a deep notch in the response. There will also some phase-shift introduced to the sound which would be quite fatigue prone and also loose significant detailing in the sound. Higher gauge wires will have more turns for the same value and hence more wire resistance. Lower guage will have fewer turns and hence lower wire resistance.

I used Arta LIMP software to measure inductance of the coils which I wound for a crossover circuit using a diy jig like this.

Just my two cents....
