Lumin X1

Hi Nikhil

Thanks. It was great to spoke to you.
X1 turns out to be great product.
Instead of getting scm50, I decided to go with scm40 active now. Reason is , 50 has 4-5 month wait. Too long for me at this time. So idea is to get 40 now and when I move back to Mumbai, sale off 40 at Bangalore with some loss and get 50 to be delivered in Mumbai
Eagerly awaiting your move to Mumbai Sell your 40s to me when you move!

I have been comparing my existing Weiss Dac 202 with in built Dac of x1.

X1 has digital out through usb which is selectable from iPad app. USB out of x1 was connected to usb in Weiss Dac. X1 was used as streamer.

Though , nothing wrong with Weiss sound. X1 is much more resolving. Weiss sounded perfectly ok on its own, but compared to x1,it lacked very big soundstage of X1. Weiss has soundstage of approx 7-9 feet while x1 has was on higher side of 20+. Voices has more air. Compared to x1 , weiss was little mellow, sugary which may be good for certain genre. If somebody like studio sound ,Weiss will be best. Separation were also better in x1. X1 sounded more natural and cohesive. One thing noted is highs were sounded very similar in both. I found Weiss was more disciplined like serious contender while x1 was more fun , artist on steroids:)

I can be perfectly happy with Weiss , no issue , but x1 is different league altogether.

I think Weiss is more like pro product, even today it’s cost approx gbp 2500-3000 used one internationally.
Time to get rid off Weiss :)

Next I will be comparing RMI Adi Dac which I am using for my desktop setup. Don’t think it’s fare comparison looking at price difference:)

Hi I am new to this forum have interest in stereo. I have set up ATC SCM50- ATC SCA2- Lumin X1- ROON ROCK.

@samirk ,Congratulations for your Lumin X1. I would recommend u to take ATC SCM50 ASLT really awesome speaker. Earlier I had 40 active changed it to 50 ASLT ( Rosewood )in nov 2020. Also I would recommend to go for ATC SCA2, I have and it is of totally different level. I am using SFP from Cisco SG95-24 to Lumin X1. And it is has very clean sound .Before Fiber SFP , I was using SOTM cat 7 and sotm dCBL- CAT6 . But SFP is different . Now I shifted sotm cat 6 for connecting ROON - Lumin X1.

hi Sanjeev,

Thanks. My plan is to get scm50 aslt only but currently there is wait period of 4 month. I needed something immediately. So ordered scm40 actives. It is expected tomorrow. I will get scm50 aslt when I move to Mumbai permanently. Currently I am in Bangalore.

I already ordered sg95-24.

Which sfp modules are you using with sg95-24?

thanks
Samir

40 A is also very good. You will be surprised by its performance. Also when I had 40 a , after putting GAIAII its sound became more multidimensional. I also had to wait 4 months last year for 50 ASLT. I had earlier Naim N272, 555 PSDR, 300DR and soprano no 2. Removed everything and only kept N272 and 555PSDR when I took 40A. This year in Feb removed N272 and took Lumin X1 but keeping 555PSDR so that if Naim comes with any reference DAC, will use 555PSDR with it.

I am using TP link SFP model noSM311LS. But request you to pair ATC SCA2 pre which has extremely high resolution. Even at very low volume at 8 -9 excellent full sound.

Thanks Sanjeev,

Even I am having naim currently. nac 200 pre and nap 200 power with Weiss dac202 dac sourced by Mac mini. I don’t think Mac mini is great source. Now with x1 , getting rid of all. Just x1 and scm40 with Mac mini as upnp server . will definitely look into sca2. I read lot of good things about it.

Also why not taking ROON so that u will upsample 768 kHz and DSD512 natively

Hi

do you think sca2 will be good enough with scm40a?

thanks
Yes light years ahead at least for ATC actives. I had Naim N272 and 40A. I was loosing all bits of music if I donor turn volume by 60-70%. But with SCA2 I am getting same effect at 10% volume . So in apartments we have to play music sensibly also the SCA2 is discrete pre and it’s output impedance is of 10 ohm only

Makes lot of sense.

I had Roon. I can start it again. Does upsampling from Roon had noticeable diff in sq?
Yes . Have effect with Lumin X1. You will get mixed reply from various forums … but if ur DAC is capable enough , have true processing power to handle such frequency, you will get effect otherwise ROON is useless thing.

X1 pic with fibre optic. With Cisco switch , everything is on wire now. No wifi
