I was listening to a song which I currently like more than any other and I thought I would share the beautiful words and imagery with everyone on the forum.Phil Ochs wrote Power and Glory as a sweeping, exuberant hymn to the country of his birth.Replace the states of America with those of the sub continent and you may feel a burst of patriotism surging through your veins.
And yes, please share the lyrics of the songs and the reasons why you love them...

Phil Ochs
Power and Glory

C'mon take a walk with me through
this green and growing land
Walk through the meadows and the mountains and the sand
Walk through the valleys and the rivers and the plains
Walk through the sun and walk through the rain
Here is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
From Colorado, Kansas, and the Carolinas too
Virginia and Alaska, from the old to the new
Texas and Ohio and the California shore
Tell me, who could ask for more
Here is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh, her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
Yet she's only as rich as the poorest of her poor
Only as free as the padlocked prison door
Only as strong as our love for this land
Only as tall as we stand
Here is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
Come and take a walk with me through
this green and growing land
Walk through the meadows and the mountains and the sand
Walk through the valleys and the rivers and the plains
Walk through the sun and walk through the rain
Here is a land full of power and glory
Beauty that words cannot recall
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all
Oh her power shall rest on the strength of her freedom
Her glory shall rest on us all, on us all

Tried to add the You Tube link but couldn't.Anyway its there for anyone interested...

Oh boy! there are lots. From Sarah McLachlan's Angel to Cold Play's Viva La Vida to Warren Zevon's Carmalita to good old Hotel California. Call me cheesy but one that's relatively close to my heart is Buy Me A Rose by Kenny Rogers.

He works hard
To give her all
He thinks she wants
A three car garage,
Her own credit cards
He pulls in late
To wake her up
With a kiss
Good night
If he could only
Read her mind,
She'd say:

Buy me a rose,
Call me from work
Open a door for me,
What would it hurt
Show me you love me
By the look in your eyes
These are the little things
I need^The most in my life

Now the days have grown
To years
Of feeling
All alone
And she can't help
But wonder what
She's doing wrong
Cause lately she'd
Try anything
To turn his head
Would it make a difference
If she'd said:

Buy me a rose,
Call me from work
Open a door for me,
What would it hurt
Show me you love me
By the look in your eyes
These are the little things
I need
The most in my life

And the more that he lives
The less that he tries
To show her the love
That he holds inside
And the more that she gives
The more that he sees
This is a story
Of you
And me

So I bought you a rose
On the way home
From work
To open the door
To a heart
That I hurt
And I hope you notice '
This look in my eyes
Cause I'm gonna make
Things right
For the rest of your life
(Rest of your life)
And I'm gonna
Hold you tonight
Do all those
Little things
For the rest
Of your life

Cheers.

One song that will never be beaten.. the song that made sense when it was made.. and continues to make sense even today...

How many roads must a man walk down,
before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove fly,
before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must a cannon ball fly,
before they're forever banned?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist,
before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn't see?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many times must a man look up,
before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

Hi,

I like this song and the lyrics. As you guys see it is from the Band Eagels.

The New Kid In Town

There's talk on the street; it sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody's watching you
People you meet, they all seem to know you
Even your old friends treat you like you're something new

Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Everybody loves you, so don't let them down

You look in her eyes; the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics, here we go again
But after awhile, you're lookin' the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend

Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Will she still love you when you're not around?
There's so many things you should have told her,
but night after night you're willing to hold her,
Just hold her, tears on your shoulder

There's talk on the street, it's there to
Remind you, that it doesn't really matter
which side you're on.
You're walking away and they're talking behind you
They will never forget you 'til somebody new comes along
Where you been lately? There's a new kid in town
Everybody loves him, don't they?
Now he's holding her, and you're still around
Oh, my, my
There's a new kid in town
just another new kid in town
Ooh, hoo
Everybody's talking 'bout the new kid in town,
Ooh, hoo
Everybody's walking' like the new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
Theres a new kid in town people started walking
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town

There are some reviews about the song here too.

@jitubisht
Been listening to Dylan for something like 30 years now.He was always my favorite. But since I first heard Phil Ochs a couple of years back Dylan has been relegated to second best. All through the 70's and early 80's when I and my friends lived and breathed rock music we never discovered Phil Ochs. Our loss.I now consider Phil as the giant who towers above his peers-Dylan,Hendrix,Clapton,Young,Lennon,Marley,Morrison etc.etc.But Blowing in the wind,Like a Rolling Stone,Tambourine Man,Times They Are A-Changing are some of the high points of 20th century popular music.
@srikarkav
I first got the Hotel California album in 1978.From the beginning New Kid in Town was my favorite track followed by Last Resort and Wasted Time.Yeah, the title track for me was always fourth best.I was horrified when I first heard Hell Freezes Over. All the great Eagles music had been turned into a saccharine sweet mush.Hotel California especially was sickeningly tepid and bland. This for me was truly the end of the great 60's and 70's music and the beginning of the infinitely boring and conformist 80's---Wham,Air Supply,Modern Talking,Duran Duran,Madonna,Michael Jackson,Bruce Springstein,Sting----Mercifully this was the time I discovered Coltrane,Miles Davis,Duke Ellington,Louis Armstrong,Thelonious Monk,Sonny Rollins and a little later Bach,Mozart,Beethoven,Schubert....

mltr 25 minutes too late by jascha richter

After some time I've finally made up my mind
she is the girl and I really want to make her mine
I'm searching everywhere to find her again
to tell her I love her
and I'm sorry 'bout the things I've done

I find her standing in front of the church
the only place in town where I didn't search
She looks so happy in her weddingdress
but she's crying while she's saying this

Chorus: Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
twentyfive minutes too late
Though you travelled so far boy I'm sorry your are
twentyfive minutes too late

Against the wind I'm going home again
wishing me back to the time when we were more than friends

But still I see her in front of the church
the only place in town where I didn't search
She looked so happy in her weddingdress
but she cryed while she was saying this

Chorus:
Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
twentyfive minutes too late
Though you travelled so far boy I'm sorry your are
twentyfive minutes too late

Out in the streets
places where hungry hearts have nothing to eat
inside my head
still I can hear the words she said

Chorus:
Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
twentyfive minutes too late
Though you travelled so far boy I'm sorry your are
twentyfive minutes too late

I can still hear her say.......

There was similar thread .... actually ..

http://www.hifivision.com/general-chit-chat/9647-lets-share-lyrics.html

I did not share lyrics, though shared my own creation ..... sharing again ... lol

I am Libran and so I have an in-curable romantice personality........all I can share are utmost romantice lines for the people blessed with love (My own creations)..........

My Love; a tender smile with a crystal dew on her fragile lips,
My Love; an intangible cascade falling far from a mountain tip,
My Love; a soft feeling with the rose fragrance of her gentle touch,
My Love; a serene serenade sung in the springs by a pretty thrush,
My Love; a holy rainbow with the colors of faint twilight,
My Love; a sole with the purity only in God's site,
My Love; a pearl with oyster of the lands of fairy,
My Love; Its YOU with the beauty of an elusive lady........Sam

Love is kind, Love is bold,
Love has all the beauty, a lady can hold,
Love has all the colors, a rainbow can show,
Love has all the love, that it needs to grow,
Love has all the notes a song can sing,
Love has all the depth an ocean can bring.
The prettiest feeling, ever on earth is love,
The softest cushion, you feel is love,
Love makes life like, starry skies,
Dipped in your love's mesmerizing eyes.
The warm tug, here and there you feel,
The power to do and the power to heel,
Love becomes the desire to live,Love becomes the desire to give,
The most passionate feeling ever on earth,
Is the desire to give, and the desire to love?
So Love, but with sincerity,Devotion and purity,
Be your love, stand by you and shine,
Always remaining honest true and divine.,............Sam

And this is one of my fav.......song named ROSE

Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower, and you it's only seed.
It's the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance.
It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes a chance.
It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give.
And the soul, afraid of dying, that never learns to live.
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes the rose.

...Regards
Sammy

Bravo!Sam9's!Especially for the poem named Rose.

Another song I like.A love song. But no roses and wine here. This is 'another kind of love song'.

I'm Your Man
Leonard Cohen

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man

If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Ah, the moons too bright
The chains too tight
The beast wont go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or I'd crawl to you baby
And I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart
And I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

And if you've got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
I'll disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
I'm your man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you.

artist-K'naan song--Wavin Flag!

When I get older, they'll call me freedom
Just like a Waving Flag.

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But Violent prone, poor people zone,
But it's my home, all I have known,
Where I got grown, streets we would roam.
But out of the darkness, I came the farthest,
Among the hardest survival.
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak,
Except no defeat, surrender retreat,

So we struggling, fighting to eat and
We wondering when we'll be free,
So we patiently wait, for that fateful day,
It's not far away, so for now we say

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

So many wars, settling scores,
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor,
I heard them say, love is the way,
Love is the answer, that's what they say,
But look how they treat us, Make us believers,
We fight their battles, then they deceive us,
Try to control us, they couldn't hold us,
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers.

But we struggling, fighting to eat,
And we wondering, when we'll be free
So we patiently wait, for that faithful day,
It's not far away, but for now we say,

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

And everybody will be singing it

And you and I will be singing it

And we all will be singing it

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

When I get older, I will be stronger,
They'll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag,
And then it goes back, and then it goes back,
And then it goes back

When I get older, when I get older
I will be stronger, just like a Waving Flag,
Just like a Waving Flag, just like a Waving flag
Flag, flag, Just like a Waving Flag

Since I listen to a lot of instrumental music (jazz and Electronica), this one stands out for me for it's simple lyrics describing a phase which we all have gone through - although it is a happy song for me since I do understand the meaning only when I read it and not when I am singing it...
Lovely melody to the song too.......

I'm Gonna Make It All The Way : Frank Sinatra

I cried the day you left me and I still don't know what kept me
From jumping off the highest bridge I know.
My poor heart was breaking, I felt lower than a snake-in,
That is just about the lowest you can go.
I finally stopped my drinking, fell down and started thinking,
That it's no pay to relive yesterday.
I tried to hide my sorrow, started living for tomorrow,
I think I'm gonna make it all the way.
You hurt me and abused me, took advantage of and used me,
I swear it almost made a wreck of me.
When I needed your devotion, you were never in the notion
You were cold as any iceberg in the sea,
Love to you had lost its splendor, my pride went out the window,
When you left me, I kept begging you to stay.

But now my heart is healing, and I got a real good feeling,
I think I'm gonna make it all the way.
My troubles came in bunches, I kept rolling with the punches,
You'd shoot me down and I'd get back again.
I tried to be your lover, in no time I did discover
Your loving cup was not for me to win.
Your kisses weren't the same but I kept kinda fan the flame,
Till I just couldn't take another day,
You can't blame me for trying, now I stopped my crying,
I think I'm gonna make it all the way.
I tried my best to take it, but my smiling face didn't make it,
'Cause in my heart, I knew there was no hope,
Each place reminded me of the memories of your love,
I've come right to the end of my rope.
That's when I met my new friend, she's just as much a true friend,
Treats me like a lover here to stay.
And it's working out so well now, you can go to hell now.
This time I'm gonna make it all the way.
Yes, this time I'll make it all the way.
Yes. I think I'm gonna make it all the way,
Baby, get out of my way.

Artist-James blunt Song-you're beautiful!

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're beautiful, it's true,
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
****ing high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you

You're beautiful.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.

But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARTIST- Bryan Adams SONG- Heaven

Oh - thinkin' about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free

Now nothin' can take you away from me
We bin down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more

Baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

Oh - once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down

Ya - nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way

N' baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

I've bin waitin' for so long
For something to arrive
For love to come along

Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Ya - I'll be standin' there by you

The bigdaddy of the 60's.The song which they said changed popular music 'forever'.It changed all the rules about how long a song could be,the subject matter and the vocal delivery. No more childish three minute love ditties!
From now on, its not going to be about how pretty the voice is. Its going to be about believing that the voice is telling the truth. - Sam Cooke explaining Bob Dylan to Bobby Womack, who said that he did not understand the style.

Like A Rolling Stone

Bob Dylan

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People called said "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody ever taught you
how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have
to get used to it
You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say,do you want to make a deal?

How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns
on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better take your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

Nature is in a constant state of flux.Change is happening all the time.Present becomes the past every second. Before we can grasp the essence of a thing,a person,ourselves-change has happened.Which is why it is important to flow with the tide.To stay put ,physically or intellectually is to embrace death.....
@Suri
You were wondering how I could part with my 'pristine' CD's.Well, the answer lies somewhere in this song.

PHIL OCHS

CHANGES

Sit by my side, come as close as the air,
Share in a memory of gray;
Wander in my words, dream about the pictures
That I play of changes.

Green leaves of summer turn red in the fall
To brown and to yellow they fade.
And then they have to die, trapped within
the circle time parade of changes.

Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,
Visions of shadows that shine.
Til one day I returned and found they were the
Victims of the vines of changes.

The world's spinning madly, it drifts in the dark
Swings through a hollow of haze,
A race around the stars, a journey through
The universe ablaze with changes.

Moments of magic will glow in the night
All fears of the forest are gone
But when the morning breaks they're swept away by
golden drops of dawn, of changes.

Passions will part to a strange melody.
As fires will sometimes burn cold.
Like petals in the wind, we're puppets to the silver
strings of souls, of changes.

Your tears will be trembling, now we're somewhere else,
One last cup of wine we will pour
And I'll kiss you one more time, and leave you on
the rolling river shores of changes.
