I'm looking for a projector to use in fairly dark room(little to no ambient light) for screen size of around 80 inches. For my budget (of around 50k), most of the projectors seem to have "more lumens" even in eco-mode.

Is there any projector that concentrates on better pq(better blacks?) than lumens/full HD at this price point(more like low-end mith hc4000/epson cinema projectors)? Or do I have to increase the budget?

I don't mind importing from US, but would prefer to buy here. Also, full HD/3D is not important for me.

Hello adreamer!

Few days back, I purchased a Benq LED pj with just 200 lumens on it. My 95% viewing is at night and I am satisfied with the level of brightness for nightviewing. It does not strain your eyes even after long sessions. I think you may look for LED pjs too as it fits into the criteria of putting out lower lumens. Also you dont burn out expensive lamps in the process as most LED pjs have at least 20K hours usable llight source!

Thanks Saket.

I was following your threads on LED projectors closely :). I wanted to actually buy Acer k330(a bit more brightness) so that I can run in Eco-mode to reduce noise/heat. But reading reviews in net, I thought pq is not good(compared to good bulb projectors), particularly on k330(over saturated colours).

Though I have to admit that bulb life time is might tempting.

It will be a great option to have a demo yourself. Attributes like video/audio are highly subjective to different individuals and you may like what others do not & vice versa. As far as noise & heat are concerned, the model I got myself runs very cool & quiet, that I can tell you.:)

Before deciding, do give a close look to LED projections but make sure its in a dark environment.

Very true on subjective.

There are recent posts in another thread on room length for viewing via projector, indeed this too is subjective per individuals but some of them may think otherwise.

All the best, happy viewing,

V.
