Thanks to Furtado's & Pearl, Mumbai had the pleasure of listening to George Kollias, the fastest drummer in the world @ the Drum Clinic organised @ the Palm Expo 2011 held at NEC, Goregoan.

George is the drummer of the Death Metal Band Nile:

WOW !!!

I still cannot believe I met & actually shook Hands/Spoke to George Kollias yesterday :clapping:

Such a mind blowing Drummer & so very down to earth & humble, words fail me when I talk about him. In short BLASTBEATS GOD!!! :clapping::yahoo::clapping:

Met him back stage & then heard him play his Custom Pearl Drum Kit for nearly an hour, the audience went wild & so did I:yahoo:

Am putting up just a sample of his greatness :

Woah!! Denom dude.. Awesome, He's one of my top favourites.. I really wanted to catch him Live but since Sonisphere is happening had to save up.. How was it?? Heard there's gona be a NILE concert soon... Did u get to take any pictures/videos??

Hi jk chaos,

Yeah dude, George was awesome, the crowd went nuts - had a mini mosh, stampede & what not! All because of the stupid organisers not letting the crowd enter while George was setting up his kit & tuning it. I took a pic with george :D & a couple during the performance, check out this interview

George has promised that Nile will come to India in 2012. Maybe a one off @ Palace Grounds (where else ), fingers crossed they will have a couple of gigs all over India !

What was really surprising to hear from him was that Nile has tried coming to India for the past 3 years but things did not work out :o - Anyway fingers crossed we get to see/hear them in 2012 ;)

Hey lucky you going to sonisphere - enjoy :)

Denom dude, Sonisphere is happenin right here in India, hope you are aware of that.. Its happening this October..

Yea i have heard about the Nile thing.. I think it was last year that they even confirmed a gig on their website.. Keeping my fingers crossed and horns raised..

@ Sagar, sorry bro no one comes not even close to Kolias when it comes to speed and blast beats.. He blasts with a single foot while all the others use double bass for the same..
BUT if you are looking for some freaking awesome drummers do checkout Dave Lombardo, Nick Menza, Charlie Benante, John Tempesta, Paul Bostaph, Lars, Pete Sandoval and if you really want your eyes pop out, Tony Royster Jr, Virgil Donati, Jojo Mayer and guys like that..

+1

@ Sagar,

Amon Amarth IS also one of my fav bands - but thats another story ;) Missed them in bangalore:mad: due to work commitments - hope they return & play in mumbai in the near future:licklips:

:D sonisphere with only Metallica , what about the other artists performing at the european cities??? When will we also get the same type of sonisphere brother:mad:
Heck was hoping the Big 4 Trash Metallers would atleast make it to India instead of only Metallica:mad:

Anyway something is better than nothing eh???

@denom : Dude check out the slayer website, they are soon announcing the India tour dates.. The world is slowly realizing that people do live here.. IF they can do a bloody show in Indonesia or Turkey, Why not us??
And that is just what is happening!!!

On the topic of drums but at a slightly different tangent.....
I am sure we all enjoy the occasional drumming exhibition, especially when it is put on by experts.
But on to the other side of the equation: what if you happen to have a neighbour, who is NO expert but who thinks he is a great drummer and bangs away on his drum-set for practically the whole day, without getting his practice room soundproofed.
Which is where my problem lies. I have these idiotic (the term "idiotic" is used in lieu of a word which would attract a moderator's wrath) neighbours who have an even more idiotic son, who is not a hundred percent up there where it matters. Now these fools have thought nothing of letting their son drum away all day without bothering to at least have the practice room soundproofed. And believe me, when you hear it all day long it is not very nice.
Is there any legal way to get them to stop? I mean, any law on noise pollution which can be applied? I have ruled out talking to them (did I mention somewhere that they were idiots?). So, any one who has had similar experience or who has legal expertise please help. Otherwise I will be the one in legal trouble, because if I lose it someday, then I might just barge into their house, take those drumsticks and shove them up that idiot's anatomy in the place where the sun don't shine and set fire to the tip of them:mad:

 You met him??!! Seriously!! Wow..I'm so jealous now! Why the hell din't i know about this back then :annoyed:

Anyway congrats denom! I know how you must have felt!

This year's been pretty quiet in terms of concerts..Just one major festival so far (which was pretty much a flop). Hope something happens at the year end.

Yea, it now feels like it happened a very long time ago. Sadly, Nile could not keep their promise of coming to India to play couple of gig's
Hope they do come in the near future.

Our entertainment industry is all about promoting mediocre rubbish, which is selling quite well so guys like you & me have no say in the matter.

Yeah Nile guys were denied a visa here. So i don't think its their fault.

I'm guessing your fav Nile album is Annihilation :ohyeah: My fav is In Their Darkened Shrines..although i love Annihilation too!

And when has the entertainment industry not promoted mediocre music

Remininds on of this track from Judas Priest. 1 of my fav tracks ;)

Well Scott Travis is a beast but its not fair to compare him to George Kollias. The style that George plays demands a lot more stamina and technique. Scott is perhaps the best 'popular' drummer..primarily because he joined such an established band in 1989. All other good drummers are really unheard of (with a few exceptions). Btw that's a very nice live performance of Painkiller you've posted there!

WOW. That's something my friend. Did he happen to give you a pair of his sticks?

I wish someday I can see Mike Portnoy perform and maybe get a chance to have a chat. Man, I've been a seriously follower....
