Hi naren , sorry i didn't notice your post . without you it is impossible for me to get the maya . i have to thank you for the great help . and today you visited me and had a audition . so please post your audition impression .

Excellent build. Looks very neat, and I like the idea of a clear glass/acrylic top allowing one to see the internals of the amplifier. Reminds me a bit of ferrari and lamborgini cars where you can see the back mounted engines.

Do you have a pre-amplifier in your chain, or is your source also doubling up as a pre-amp?

Once again, great build.

best,
apk

thank you .. i dont have a preamplifier in my chain . my cowon j3 drives the amplifier straight.

Suresh

Nice build.

Did you source the transformer locally ?

What parameters are used for transformer selection?

Yes locally by one transformer supplier. 600va but it easily will do continuous 800 va. 4 separate secondary? windings each 45v. The DC voltage per rail is 62volts.

Thank you.

Does the designer recommend a particular type of transformer ?

Some amplifier transformers look different from the one shown in the picture.

My question is out of curiosity and nothing else.

yes Hugh Dean recomended 2 300va torroidal transformer . there are debates about EI core and torroidal transformer . there are high end manufacturer going only for EI . as for torroidal core is concerned it can be used but it has to put in an epoxy and it has to be enclosed . considering all these and i know the local supplier well and he gives very high quality transformer . so i went with EI .

Regards.

Thanks for the reply. Does this source provide enough gain to drive the power amp, or have you adjusted the power amp accordingly. Asking out of curiosity. Also guessing that you have only one source at this point :)

i built my usher 2 way design from this site

MurphyBlaster Productions

For the benefit of some FMs, especially those who dabble in DIY, could you post a thread about your speaker build using the usher drivers. Not many speaker build threads here using usher drivers, though the scanspeak ones that they are copied from are quite popular here.

maya requires 1.5v rms as input . i did little adjustment for slightly more gain in amplifier . cowon j3 is not that bad it gives easily 1.2v rms output. yes i agree i have only one source right now.

i had the build photos in an external HDD which crashed . so i lost the photos. i searched and found only 2 photos . i am attaching it here . but the cross over board is 3mm hylam sheet drilled for componenets and tied using wire tie . even some bonded by silicone glue . crossover is very heavy 17 gauge copper wound on transformer bobbin. placing adjacent indutor by 90 degrees out of phase for avoiding magnetic interference . i did the speaker in 2008-09 . but it is worth the effort .

Mahesh,
i live in a rented house . so i can't plan properly for my listening room . ok as you wish i will take some photos and post it tomorrow. my build and setup may not aesthetically please you . but sure your ears will be delighted .

Hi all i am suresh and i live in pondicherry . i like high quality audio and i am basically an electronic engineer . i have been building amplifier for a long time . i started with STK459 then went to elektor cresendo and many .

Recently i bought MAYA amplifier modules from HUGH DEAN from melbourne australia . i built the amplifier in a case . here i am attaching the photos. i like the sound of the amplifier very much . i have very unique design approach and it is tuned to produce more even order harmonics and very less odd order . so it will sound like tube amplifier. it is a class ab with out crossover distortion .

Regards,
R.Suresh.

This is amazing build. Your works looks so professional.

There are so many audio GURU's and BAGAWAN's . i am nothing in front of them . need to spend lot of time and money to achieve that level . but i am having limited resource and time . since by profession as an electronics engineer i understand certain thing and what i am trying my best on my budget . almost i have completed 25 years in audio journey .

my interest in electronics started in my childhood as my father bought TELERAMA Tv in 1975 . then i had tv videogame in 1977 . in 1981 we had holland philips color tv and i had atari 2600 video games . first vcr national NV-300(top loading) / then national NV-450 (front loading) . all these gadgets made interest in electronics and i studied B.E (ECE) in MSRIT bangalore . i roamed SP road instead of studying and had arrears in many subject . this part of my life...
