Hi, I just got the Onkyo TX-NR609 after returning the 2 day old Yamaha RX-V1067.

The Yamaha was returned to the shop only after 2 days of use due to some defect in the AUDIO source. There was audible interference heard from the speakers when the AUDIO source was selected despite having connected only ONE source. Second problem, the speed of the sound played from the USB seeemed too slow.

Having spoken to the saleman, he admitted that Yamaha units were being returned due to defective mainboards (including the 767).


Not sure if the lot sold in Thailand has this particular

Not sure if the dealers in Pattaya can quote for the Onkyo TX-NR609 at same prices as Bangkok. I would suggest to buy from Bangkok itself.

There are two shops that are within 10 minutes walking distance from Central Department Store (Childom branch). One of them is selling it for THB 22,500 (Union Stereo).

Here is the direction:

1.) Take the BTS skytrain from your starting location and get off at Chidlom Station, in front of Central Chidlom.
2.) Once you are in front of Central Department Store, Chidlom branch, walk about 50 metres in the direction of the inbound traffic and then turn right at the intersection.
3.) Walk along the side entrance of Central in the opposite direction of the traffic flow.
4.) Walk further down the road until you see McDonalds (about 100-250 metres from the intersection).
5.) Cross the road onto the opposite side of Mc Donalds and keep walking in the opposite direction of the traffic flow until you come to a small street on your left.
6.) There is a small convenience store (not sure if it's Family Mart or 7-Eleven there) at the corner of the small street.
7.) Walk inside that street 50 metres and you will find two shops "Sahavitayu (Saha Radio) and Union Stereo"

Ask your friend to bargain and make sure that they unpack a new unit to test. These XXXnese shopkeepers will always try to sell you the display unit and say it's brand new

My 609 also arrived. Set up the same with procinema speakers.

BTW - have you checked the audio input from Tata Sky HD when connected thru HDMI ?

Are you seeing PCM 2.0 - meaning the tata sky is not outputting 5.1 Dolby to the Onkyo ....

The us version is also 110 to 220 v?. Is it so. Which online site have you purchased it from and can you upload the back view of the amp please.

i too am thinking of getting Jamo S606 or Wharfedale Obsidian or Jamo S506. Also goingto audition Elac 50 series. in near future.

what price did you give for your speakers? are the centers , sub and surround of the matching jamo series? pl do reply

Am also getting SR 609 in few days, request you to share how's this new beast?, did you face any trouble setting it up! I sincerely hope you didn't

Am new to Hi END Equipments, Can you pls help me to find difference between Onkyo SR 609 or NR 609, are these more or less same or some major difference?
I asked for NR 609, but right now available is SR 609! My Usage will be 80% movies and 20 Music!

The last years model was called SR 608 this years one they have named it NR609 but I can see some sites referring to the new one as SR 609 only ... you might want to check the naming on the box and the receiver.

I guess the N stands for Networking capability.. so in the specs you can double check

What about heating problem ? my friend bought here in india and i sow this amp was heating to much in standby .

The heating is definitely noticable but not alarming or problematic. I have my receiver on throughout the day and it stabilizes after some time. Unless there is extraordinarily poor ventilation, shouldn't be an issue. My AV unit has some 15cms clearance on all sides and I keep the cabinet closed.
