I started my record collection in 2006 when a film director friend of mine gave me a copy of the Midnight Cowboy OST. I had no TT. Spin it on my finger was the best i could do. That record sat alone among my CDs till 2008. In 2008, a colleague told me that Atria Mall had a Pro FX showroom that sold TTs. So off i went, and came back with their most entry level TT, the Denon 29F. (That was all i could afford.) I already had a Marantz amp with a built in equaliser, the PM 500. And along with my CD player Philips S900, i had a pair of Bose 601 speakers. Over the next few years, slowly but surely, i started getting more records. In India as well as on international travel. Over a short period of time i realised that the TT i had was rubbish. Unfortunately for me the capacitors of the PM 500 started giving me trouble and even the cones and sponge linings of the Bose 601s started deteriorating. But i continued to use this system for almost the next 10 years.
In 2019, i got upgraded to a Rega P1, and the Marantz PM 6002 i have shown here and the Monitor Audio speakers. I used these for 3 years. But in 2022, my audio listening really took a turn when i got my hands on the Technics SL 1210 MK2. Along with the Schitt Mani sound stage. It's like my ears popped open. Funny thing, meanwhile, i kept buying records, mostly used from all over and my collection kept growing. I told myself: don't stop collecting, get good records when you find them and hopefully, eventually, the good system will follow some day. And it did in 2022. And i continue to enjoy it till today. More on some of my records later.
