My YPAO Experience

Hi Folks,

Thaught let me share my exp. with YPAO room acoustics caliberation.
okey, I have :
Amp:: RX-V 471
Fronts & center (F&D..speakers..meant for HT use not Comp) - 150 Hz - 20KHz
Surrnds :: JBL Control 1 (80 Hx - 20 KHz)
SW :: Polk Audio - PSW 110 (60 to 160 Hz)

YPAO mic was put @ ear level w/ tripod. No obstructions around.

RESULTS::
- Distance - Front L = 10 ft (correct)
Front R = 10.2 ft (correct)
Center = 9.8 ft ( almost correct)
Surr L = 7.2 ft ( almost correct)
Surr R = 6.2 ft (correct)
SW = 13.2 ft (correct)
- Volume Level -
Front L = 0 db
Front R = 0 db
Center = -1 ( changed to + 1.5 Db )
Surr L = -5.5 (Wrong.. Surrs were very quiet..changed to 0)
Surr R = - 4 ((Wrong.. Surrs were very quiet..changed to -1)
SW = - 9.0 Db (WRONG..SW..what SW? changed to 0 db)

SW crossover is set (by YPAO) @ 90 Db. I am sure by BS (fronts) do not go below 120 Hz, still left X'over to 90, feel its boomy above 100 Db.
I was using a Y cable, now i have removed it and using single RCA cable.

Overall..okey tool to start with..but not impressed. 50% accuracy.

I had same kind of satisfaction as you might be having with YAPO . BTW.. I have 2.1 setup only right now.

After running YAPO 3-4 times, I gave up. I had to google to find out how to reset my AVR to factory settings. Right now I am very happy with the default settings. :clapping:

Yes the YPAO automatic calibration settings are not so great. I use it to just use the initial calibration and then make some more changes until I feel the sound is good for my ears..

Well I did my YPAO for the Ax-2000 with 5.0 and the YPAO-Reflected Sound Control sound optimization with multi-point measurement and after which I just had to do a +.5DB for the surrounds and thats all I was good to go..
ofcourse i am running Rx-A2000 with Klipsch Rf-82s; and for surrounds using a pair of Polk TSi 300s ... I guess they improved on the YPAO after checking the customer feedback and also the Multipoint- Measurement is better YPAO than the single point one hyeah:

I wont be wasting my time with the YPAO for sure.

Guess tuning by ear is here to stay.
