Need a BDP or should i take a PS3

Anything I buy right now will be there for me for 5-6 years. The reason is my new house will be ready by then and at that time I want the best cause money would also not be a constraint

I owe a sony bdp 370 for last one year....as per me it is a fantastic player..But i have used it to play only DVDs and BDs....

but the sherwood player i recently bought has all the problems in the world....so beware also of buying from out of India.....if your player gets scrwed up, then u will be forced to ship the player to their place for service......

I am tilting towards onida because its region free.
Can the sony play mkv files and other soft media from my 2tb

it seems it can.. but it does not support ntfs....so it would be a problem for you....Onida every one says it is region free...but till now i have not seen any one who owes one and given a review of its region freeness here.....

I have seen that. Go to the thread: where to buy region free blu ray player in mumbai?

Its in there. And if ntfs is not supported then its a major issue for me.

currently tilting towards the Onida...but if the Sony 380 can play ntfs and is region free then i am going for it

hmmm
the marantz also has some region free bdps. currently in india they are around 25k but i think it would be cheaper in malaysia/singapore

After years of service my Pioneer DVD player seems to get in the old age now with some problems here and there. Sometimes remote not working, sometimes not reading the disc, etc. Well I have no complaints because it served me well for 4 years.

Now since the time has come to change, I wanted the opinions of my fellow mates here. TO BEGIN WITH LET ME MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT SINCE I WOULD NOT BE USING THIS PLAYER TOO MUCH SO SQ & PQ ARE NOT TOO MUCH OF A BOTHERRATION FOR ME AND IF YOU READ BELOW YOU SHALL KNOW WHY.

Some pointers:
1. I do not have a lot of blu ray discs
2. I will sometimes play my cds through the player
3. Dvds I have and I will use this player to play
4. I have WD TV live through which I can play most of all my softwares
5. But if the BDP can do what my WD TV live can, then will pass on the media player to my brother.

Now since I am changing, I thought of taking the Blu ray player so that I am set for some years in the future. Dont have a 3d tv so I dont really care for 3D. I am more of a music guy but surely would need a player for playing my hardware.

Another thought which occurred to my mind was: although I would not use my player extensively and anything decent would anyways not cost me below 10K, should I go and buy PS3. It maybe a slightly more expensive option but in this way I got the following covered in one device: gmaes, dvd, br, acd, soft media, etc.

Suggestions are invited for a player that is most apt to my conditions. I like the Sony BD 370. Read a lot about it and found to be pretty good.

Also I would be travelling to Singapore & Malaysia in another 20 odd days. So should I wait and get it from there. also suggestions about places, etc to get it from in these countries.

Any kind of help is more than welcomed. :)

I was in a dilemma over the same PS3 over Dedicated BDP.....but weighing the pros-cons....i chose the PS3....xcellent quality picture, xcellent gaming and comfort of both. Got myself from the USof A.....Region-A
Nevertheless..........!

Sony is never a region free player man....

Checked out on eBay, the Sony BDP-S370 is a Region free Blu-Ray and DVD player, priced around Rs.29000/- But recently eBay has some payment portal gateway problems....just waitin to get them resolved....maybe i will pamper myself with one.

That kind of money , you shld be looking at OPPO or Dune HD MAX players.

Plenty of online sellers with preloaded mod kits. 220electronics is one.

Yes it would be foolish buy Sony BDP S 370 for 29k...As a use of 1 year I can assure the player should be priced now ardound 5-6k and not a penny more..And 29k give me a break...You can always find better things to pamper yourself.....

Only go for PS3, if you are a gamer; and if you can get a BD player from US from your friends or relatives, it will work out damn cheap...

thanks guys. kittu i would infact look at your options on the site and by no means would i be going with a 370 for 29k. that would be the worst decision as far as i am concerned
can anyone lead me to the prices and purchase points for oppo and dune players in india/singapore/malaysia. that would be a very big help
