Hola folks

As the title suggest I am looking for a sub-woofer for my HT. The only missing part is the sub and before I make a decision in haste I thought I consult you guys here.I have checked the sub-woofer recommendations, but couldn't find a suggestion under the 15k INR category. Darn you chaps are rich :clapping:.

Currently the MA m4's are the FS and surrounds are from Pure Acoustics. The bass is good from the M4's but yeah a setup without a sub is sure missing the vital part.

So what's the best bet forward ? Look at the el cheapo Onkyo SKW 208 at 12k INR or is there something better than this. :signthankspin: in advance.

anm DIY not my piece of cake man. Have done quite a few DIY's for the car when it came to damping and building FG pods. This is a long shot and I don't wana give it a try.My better half will disown me this time if she finds the house messed up.

shaq forgot to add that the room is 20x14 feet. I think it surely warrants a sub coz with the older Onkyo sub before I gave away my HTS680 I had used the sub with the M4's and it sounded good.

sorry dude, with that budget you would not get anything out of it for that room size. It will barely sound any different. You would need to increase your budget. get either 2 of BIC PL-200 or at least one of Rythmik FV12, HSU VTF2 MK3, SVS SB 12 NSD, SVS has a cylindrical sub. In fact 2 of these subs would be great!!
But budget is 50K each for these subs. BIC is cheaper, but you would mostly need two. U Can Get one now and another one later.

shaq with older sub from Onkyo(HTs680) coupled with the M4's it was good enough man. It dint sound bad , however I had to part with the system as a whole else I would have retained the sub. Thanks for your opinion again.

I will check on kittu's suggestion and see how feasible it is. Else will try and get a Onkyo SKW 208 for a few days, install and check.

you can get cheaper subs, but for the money you will get great performance if you get the sub diy. Especially the sealed diy subs are easier to build and will offer many times better performance than off the shelf ones. For sealed subs, all you need to find is a good plan, then source the amp and driver. As for woodworking skills, you can get it built from a skilled carpenter. That will not make a mess at your home and you will not have to buy the tools etc.

Think about it before buying the sub. You can even go multiple subs at those prices.

Although this is not my thread, I got to be honest, unlike the OP, I am very keen on DIY stuff. If I can build something myself, I'll gladly do it, provided I can figure out how to.

Mind helping me with some links for info on how to build a sealed sub for about 10-12k?

Cheers
Mithun

A used 12" sub can do this job in your budget ,anything new for 15k wont suffice for your room size...
Just my 2 cents..

Good place to start.

This drive is now out of stop, but there are some other comparable drivers at parts-express.com.

its quite a bit reading, but with more reading, you will be able to choose the amp + driver better. Wish you good luck.

You can, maybe, consider this design using the Apex Jr Super 8" Subwoofer from this page along with either this or this plate amp. Shouldn't cost too much if you can figure out a cheap mode of transportation to India. You can find more details on builds using this driver here.

Thanks for all the feedback guys
Out of curiosity, what level of skill is required for putting something like this together for someone who has never done it before?
Getting the cabinet done doesnt seem too complicated cause there are several carpenters who I know who can easily pull that off.
My biggest concern is the electronics.

Any threads discussing how one should approach that in case he/she is doing it for the first time?

I know you guys are always around to help and that dual-subsystem is drool worthy for someone like me, but i am just a little apprehensive cause I dont know what kind of trouble I am getting into with this. And its expensive :P

Any recommendation for places to source parts from online as well?

Any idea what his handle is here on the forum ? Thanks for the suggestion .

DIY is passe for me now , considering the fact that we have a 1 yr old at home. Forever curious and I dare start something on those lines. Appreciate your suggestion.

I will look out for that thread, good luck.

I am open to used one's too, however will start my hunt only after am back in Bangalore. The thing is that I can't afford to splurge much on the HT for now since my car is undergoing an upgrade in terms of ICE. On the other hand I cant wait to get done with the HT too. Else I would have to wait for a few months save up and get a good sub in the price range of 30k plus. I honestly cant wait that long :) .

ICE upgrade , what do you have now? and what are you upgrading to ?

:)

Some el-cheapo stuff man :) . Components from JLAudio and a monobloc from Hifonics which I picked up from the US. Just about on stage 1 and other upgrades to follow eventually. Right now a FG install needs to be done and am still working out on the mounting of speakers for the center doors. Cabling being changed and a few other knick knacks, btw we are off topic.

thanks to Manoj and a couple of other guys, I have a strong inclination to move towards a DIY option.
Doesnt seem too much of an ardous task for me to get this swinging.
Especially with the pre-built amp's and drivers available in the market.
I am doing a bunch of research now to figure out a kickass combo for my Wharfe 9.1 and 9CS.

Will keep you guys posted :)

rjstyles - Why not post in the Wanted section here? Someone may be looking to sell their sub within your budget. For 15K you can get a better deal on pre-owned stuff than on a new product.
