Personally, I wouldn’t drink the koolaid. I don’t have a whole lot of experience but I’ve always liked clean sound with a good soundstage and deep bass. With my iPods and Sony NW Walkman players I’ve had Sonys and JBLs going back 20 years. With all the recent hoopla about IEMs, particularly from the aforesaid HPZ, I decided to bite. Spent quite a bit of time researching on it and went some KZ IEMs for about 1.5-2k. Big chonky things which had supposedly deep bass drivers and blah blah. What a disappointment! I kept using them hoping they’d open up but nada! I then bought a pair of unpretentious JBLs from Amazon for about 1.5 iirc and what a difference! Night and day! Larger soundstage, nice separation and deep, clean bass! Sure, they aren’t as good as my Jabra Elites but those cost 12k at the time. And they are compact, easy to carry and non fiddly. AND sound better than those iems. I’m not going to explore any longer.

YMMV of course but as a career branding consultant, I’d say this is starting to smell like a fair amount of woo woo that has helped sell snake oil to thousands of kids who are just jumping on the audio bandwagon.

In short, I’d say stick with some decent earphones from Amazon/flipkart and perhaps spend a bit extra on a nice little DAC a little further down the line if you feel the need.

But hey, experimenting could be fun too I suppose. Heck that’s what most of us are doing here.

Cheers,
