Hi all,

I am planning to set up a budget friendly HT system. and one of my friend from US will be bringing the receiver for me. I just opted two options here as of now
1. Yamaha RX-V679BL 7.2-Channel MusicCast AV Receiver with Bluetooth - 350$
2. Onkyo TX-NR555 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver - 350$

Speaker packages am planning to buy from India is as below.

POlK TSX 330, TSX 150C, TSX 110b & PSW 125.(74,000 INR) This is what I am planning for.

Please help me to choose a good option from the receiver and as well as your reviews or suggestion about speaker packages. If there is any other better options please do let me know. And could you please let me know the areas where I can get best deals. I am based out of Cochin, Kerala.

Thanks,
Vineeth

Polk speakers are good for movies. If budget permits opt for Polk rti series which very good than TSX series . U can build step by step if budget not permits and u r willing to do so. The other cost effective option is Taga Harmony speakers which very good for their price range. I think Profx Kochi is dealing both Polk and Taga Harmony speakers and Yamaha AVR. Go for an audition with your favorite tracks and decide the best. GOOD LUCK.

If budget permits, get a Marantz instead.

They are much more musical AVRs. As someone suggested above, you can build your system in stages of budget is a problem.

Your front 3 speakers (L, C, R) are your most important speakers. So spend money on them initially and then you can add surrounds later.

Also, keep budget for a good subwoofer because for HT like effect, having a really good sub is paramount. Once you move all the 100Hz frequency to the sub, it makes all the other speakers much more efficient and makes it easier for your AVR to drive them.

If you are getting AVR from USA, they'll be only 110v compatible ; you'll need a Step-down transformer which will be another 2k. I'd suggest that you buy from 220velectronics.com in USA if you want it to work directly with Indian voltages. I'd avoid Step-down route as much as possible.

Alternatively speakers can be bought from USA & avr from here, as some brands like klipsch, Kef etc are much cheaper in USA.

Better to get the AVR here in india to avail warranty and easy accessibility to service.
Since it is from U.S, you got to get step down transformer also.
We shouldn't get carried away by the big price difference in my opinion.
Why can't you think about other components like DAC to get from there instead

Thanks man.. 90% for movies only.. So I hope POLK fits good for my purpose. And RTI is pretty much expensive for me. That means I need to wait longer to buy one. I almost waited one year to have this package.. lol. Anyways thanks for the suggestion man.. It helps.

I can see marantz in a good deal there. Let me check that as well. Thanks
Meantime what's your opinion on PSW 125. Heard some good reviews about it.

Hi,

In my opinion, get the Receiver from india if warranty and servicability is important to you. Speakers, cables, dacs, connectors, spl meter, etc can be got from the US.

Polk Rti are a notch better then the TSx line. You could start with just getting a 2.1 unit and then upgrading to surround at a later stage.

If you have the budget, look at Polk DSW series, they're better in terms of build and quality, they can touch much lower frequency than the PSW series.

Subs are always independent of the speakers, so you don't necessarily need to match the brand...some of the other choices can be Velodyne, SVS, Dali, Bic America, Taga Harmony etc (they're in no specific order)

I would add HSU to the mix as well. Excellent subs for the money
