Was fortunate to be a spectator during the installation process of new xovers for the tannoy monitor gold 12 speakers, done by ace tannoy & vintage speakers specialist, shri Jignesh Khatiwala.

Would like to share the whole installation process via pics for benefit of Tannoy freaks :p

Hi Hiten,

Yes, you are well aware of the system & know the owner as well.

These were initially build by me and sold to Dr. Abhi when I acquired 15" tannoys MG's. I am also due to upgrade the crossover on mine and would love to hear the difference this upgrade makes.

Hi Vinay,

Well then the proof of the pudding.... Do visit & confirm the same. The little time that we had left during which we heard some music confirmed that the difference was substantial, is what the good dr. himself mentioned to us.

Is he on our hifivision and his name is similar to a famous cricketer? :)

If its the same person then I had sold my Lyrita to him. Does he still have it or its gone?

Hi Rikhav,

Can you share the details of what lyrita you are talking about??? DHT pre with GM70 power amp?

He had purchased my 6c333c intergrated. Then later converted it to power amp and purchased a new DHT pre with it

I guess then later on the 6c33c went and new GM70 power amp came in

Hi,

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Are these crossovers a redesign of the original Tannoy Monitor Gold crossovers or a rebuild of the old crossover with new parts?

Regards
Rajiv

That's great. I don't have any system to audition but It would have been pleasure and honour if you had come to my home. Do come next time :).
Glad to see Doc. is happy with the upgrade.

Hi Denom, Thank you so much for posting the pictures. But let me rectify you on one account, when you were at my home, you were not just a "spectator".
You did help a lot in the whole installation process and your feedbacks and suggestions were equally helpfull.

Hi Rikav, You rightly described my AMP history. In Addition to those mentioned i have also acquired a pair of Lyrita Solid state Monoblocks.

I am Using it with Lyrita DHT and its giving a good combination of smoothness and fluidity of tube and the power to drive of SS.

Hiten, your visit is long overdue. Do let me know when you can come down. You are the only one on forum who has heard the setup with stock crossovers. As always your inputs will be valuable.

Hi Rajiv,

Its a rebuild of the old crossover with new parts, with LF value modified.

The original xover is having 3.1mH inductor and 16uF Caps & new one is having 1.2mH inductor and 16.8uF Caps.

3.1mH with 16uF - the crossover point was very low - 715Hz
1.2mH with 16.8uF - the crossover point is higher - 1121Hz

The new generation tannoy speakers like Westminster is having the same crossover point. Also the crossover was suggested by Dr. Paul Mills.

JK has removed the connection for the energy and tone switches so now energy is '0' - Neutral & Tone is also Neutral.

For HF he has used Clarity Cap MR 630V Capacitors - the same caps they are using in Current Westminsters. For LF, Clarity Cap ESA 630V Caps.
Coil Inductors are from Mundorf. Inductors are also specified by Dr. Mills.

That is interesting.

Using the 1.2mh inductor will give a big bump at around 1000hz unless the capacitor value is increased.

This is the the finding of Troels Gravesen.

you should take his permission and post the pics of his personal cross over mod
in the seesam cab

MAN now thats a work of pure ART
and a shit load of money
i think just the dulond parts propbably give one a heartache

Great job again by jk & I'm sure Dr must be a very happy chap indeed. It seems jk's on mission to modify loads of tannoy & Altec.
I'm probably next in line for my system 1200.
We are looking at a mix of Rike audio & Duelund vsf for Caps, Inductors also Duelund & Jantzen wax foil where in parallel, the resistors are all Duelund as well & the cabling is all transparent.
Hope to listen to Dr set up some time.
All the best.
Cheers
