I have recently stup my LG 55C7 TV with my Yamaha ht-299 AVR system. Ive connected the TV and AVR through the ARC port on TV, connected my TV Set top box directly to tv. On streaming content from Prime Video on TV that is labelled 5.1, I'm getting only 2.1 ch audio on "Straight" option being displayed on the AVR screen. Why am I not getting 5.1 ch? I can get 5.1 only after switching to Dolby pro logic modes etc under 'surround decoder', but I dont feel like its true 5.1 as I can still hear dialogues through surrounds when I come up close. What is the problem?

Connect the STB to AVR and AVR out to TV. That should hopefully fix it.

Hi
Check the audio output of TV ( ARC ) , if it shows PCM try to change to Bitstream.

Thanks
Anil

Yes, no sound at all with auto. Although Im getting 5.1 ch using surround decoder on my yamaha receiver but is that how it is supposed to be?

That means TV is sending 2 channel audio to AVR and AVR is applying prologic to simulate 5 channel. This is not true 5 channel. I think this TV can do this far only.

no it should be 5.1, your tv is dolby atmos also i think in built, i think the culprit here is the yamaha avr more then the tv, does the avr support arc 5.1?
also you tried using another hdmi cable?

Cheers.

Hi ishan_bansal

Would suggest you get an Optical cable and give it as OUT from the TV and feed the same to the AVR....it should work that way.

ARC as far as i know and seen through experience feeds audio as 2 channel only....

YOur TV also has L & R speakers and not 5.1...so even if the TV has ATMOS or Surround Decorders...it is more designed to provide a Virtual surround experience when using the TV only.......

So...to enjoy 5.1 true surround....get the optical cable (hope your avr has optical in) and try ....it should work.....

I recently faced same problem.

First go to advanced audio setup of STB and check whether dolby digital is enabled for HDMI, Optical and coaxial.

Then try STB => HDMI => AVR => HDMI (OUT) => TV

on straight mode you should see dolby digital (DD) if that is available for that channel. If not available it will show PCM

BTW: for non DD channels I use simulated DD to enable center speaker to hear dialogs more clearly.

Yes I've already done this for the STB, my problem is the audio coming from the Amaxon Prime video app on my TV.

It can't be the AVR. If it is showing 2 channel in straight mode, the TV is definitely sending 2 channel audio. You can try the optical route as suggested or else check from other owners of the same TV.
You could also contact LG but I doubt they would even understand the problem, let alone solve it.

Oh for sure TV is not sending multi channel. Very very few TV send out multi channel audio. Try going through your TV settings to see if there is a switch you can flick.

Agree. But a TV claiming to be Dolby Atmos enabled should be able to do that

In TV settings under HDMI ARC, there's "Digital Audio" which has 2 options, PCM and AUTO. I get no sound from Auto, 2ch sound from PCM. I've gone through other settings as well, but to no avail.

Okay so I think I know where the problem lies, its the WebOS app itself. I played a 5.1 ch file via the usb prot of the TV and it played as 5.2 ch in straight mode on AVR, and 'Auto' mode under Digital audio in the TV. But this auto mode doesnt work for webOS apps I think, the apps only send out 2 ch audio. Ive tried LG Customer service many times, but no one seems to be picking up my phone, so I've dropped in an email to them about this.

I don't think it is the WedOS.

I have the same issue on my B6. I use optical to get 5.1 to my AVR.
