I had faced similar issue in the first year itself. The remote is gone, you can not repair it, you should buy a new one only.

Recently got nvidia shield pro TV from US. As the internal storage is just 12GB, I have tried to add external storage as device storage. However any new app is not installing in external drive and get msg to clear old apps to install new app. I have also enabled force install to external drive in developer option. I want to used nvidia shield for Android games also.

I got the solution. After adding external drive and format, I had moved the data. However looks like it was not move. I had to navigate to individual app and change it to external drive. Google play store doesn't have permission to external drive added so internal drive has to be free to add apps to external drive.

I am facing a weird issue with my shield while playing netflix movies in Dolby Atmos. My Denon AVR does not recognize the Dolby Atmos as input signal and it shows as Dolby Digital plus. The setting on Shield is Auto and pass through. However, if i play the same movie from xbox the Denon shows it as Dolby Atoms.

Anyone facing issues with RC of nvidia shield TV? My original one stopped working after 3 years of usage. Bought the aftermatket remote which just looks like original one but that has also stopped working after 8 months. Anyone has any solution? Resetting again n again didn’t work. Tried replacing the batteries too.
While the Nvidia hardware is good the remote is absolutely useless. The orginal one stopped working in a year's time. The aftermarket ones are too costly and it most of the time does not pair. Now using the Nvidia Shield app in the phone but it is not user friendly for aged people people in the home.
Hey! Bumping this thread for anyone landing here in 2026, because the situation with Amazon devices has changed a lot recently.
If you are still looking for a budget alternative to the Shield, the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (or the Chromecast with Google TV) is honestly the best choice right now. Unlike the Fire Stick, which has become super restrictive with the new "Vega OS" update (blocking custom launchers, more ads, etc.), the Xiaomi still runs official Android TV.
It handles local NAS streaming via VLC/Kodi perfectly and doesn't lag on 4K content. I actually swapped out my Fire Sticks for these recently. There's a good comparison here that explains why avoiding Amazon might be better this year:
