Homegrown consumer durables company Onida has launched the Google Android 4K UHD Smart TV exclusively on Flipkart with a starting price of ₹52,000. The TV features an Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and Google Assistant. It comes with AI algorithms to provide better suggestions and personalised content.

The voice recognition technology also gives total control on the television experience by correctly understanding voice commands, said Onida. It has an option to discover content across millions of apps from Google Playstore on the TV.

Vijay Mansukhani, Managing Director, Mirc Electronics, said the company has been working with Google to come out with ultra-high end television that appeal to the new generation. In fact, he added, the TV can provide the same experience as a mobile phone, but with better screen quality and sound.

With the new launch, the company is looking at market share expansion and better revenues in the smart LED TV category, it said in a statement.

The UIC series of Onida comes with an Pixel Illuminating Engine (PIE) which gives users an accurate picture setting. PIE is a propriety technology based on various picture enhancing algorithms, giving a better viewing experience. The television comes with quad core processor, 2.5 GB RAM, a 16 GB of internal memory and Dolby sound.

Based on the data available now, I can think of 3 reasons to get this one over iFFalcon 55", which IMO is the best value for money official Android 4K HDR TV available in India
  • Availability of larger 58" screen
  • Runs Android 8.0 (iFFalcon is on 7.0)
  • Panel appears to be 10 bit as the description says "comes with up to 1.07 Billion Colors that can be displayed on the screen"
On the downside, here is what makes iFFalcon a better deal
  • Cheaper (50" Onida costs nearly same as 55" iFFalcon)
  • Micro dimming (no mention on Onida's page)
  • Extended warranty on Flipkart is cheaper for iFFalcon
Need to wait for some reviews to see if the panel is as good as they calim

Despite no local dimming, it claims a contrast ratio of (4000000:1). Is the black levels that good?
Also how does its PIE perform ? Does PIE enhance color or brightness (as it has a brightness of just 450nits ) ? Also it says No Netflix. If thats the case it can be a deal breaker. Also hows the UI and is it a google android TV that uses playstore?

On a positive side , the TV is DLED which is a big bonus and 450 nits which is same as pixelight from VU. In comparison Mi is only 250 nits.
I would be rather interested in its upscaling and response time.

Funny she mentioned that just by touching the panel she got to know its a 8-bit panel. Wonder how did she conclude it.
