5105 - 32K

Hi Guys!

I have heard 3100 & it sounds good for me, but I see NO technical difference between this and 3105 except that 3105 is black in colour & has smaller front speakers. Has anyone auditioned these models? Any difference between 3100 & 3105?

Whereas 5105 has different AVR, 10 watts more powerful, has powered sub-woofers and has 2 coaxial digital inputs (which I need) instead of usual 1. And of course the HDMI ports, which don't make much sense to me as they are "pass through" and only useful for video switching. Does 5105 sound much better than 3100/3105?

Is it good idea to choose 3105 over 3100 for the additional 2K?

Thanks in advance for your valuable inputs.

The 5105 is a better option if 10k extra is affordable for you. Simply because its a little more technically ahead of the 3100/3105 models.
1. The receiver is technically same as the one that comes with 5100 but its a 5.1. More advanced in its build and design compared to 3100/3105 A/V receivers. 5100 has a r518 a/v compared to the old R340 in 3105.
2. The 5105 comes with a powered subwoofer. 3105's subwoofer is a passive one and need to be driven by the receiver. makes a lot of difference here, especially when watching movies at low volume.
3. HDMI is definitely useful in future even if its only pass thru. imagine multiple HDMI video sources.
4. 5105 remote is more friendly.

This is from my understanding and what i observed during a recent audition.

Bottom line - the 5105 (5.1) sounds much better for movies.

Is 5105 @ 27K a good deal ? There is an offer going on at this very moment in Blore

That's some good observations..
And many times I watch movies at low volume.
How's the performance for music? May not be very good in general? but compared to 3105?
Thanks!

i think 27k is a good price now. i remember seeing a similar price in Reliance outlet as well. 5100 was priced at 43k.

coming to the quality of music,in my opinion the onkyo HTs are good for movies. For that matter most of the HTIBs are good for reproducing the 5.1 effect. Unless you have a special ear for music, i guess the onkyo is just fine.

Reliance Digital in Blore does not have a 5105...only one piece ..quoted at
32 k
Ezone does not have 5105..they carry a 3100
Modern Radio on Airport Rod is offering the 3105 at 19900 and 5105 at 32K

The place I am refering is in Koramangala... I guess it is a new store launch offer.

This is X-cite in 5th Block Koramangala near Jyothi Nivas College

happy shopping
Cheers

A better alternative is something that dejavu007 picked up recently. He got a n Onkyo 506 + Pure Acoustics Nano 5-speaker package + Onkyo 204 230W active sub (with a continuously variable crossover control) + all cabling for 33k.....the Pure acoustics speakers sound significantly better than the comparable Onkyo speakers, and are a bit smaller than the ones that come with the 5105. The 506 is a similar but slightly better receiver than the one with the 5105, and the Onkyo 204 is a very good sub, considering the package price. This package is comparable to the 5105 for movies and much superior for music.

On their website they have mentioned 29.9K X-cite

Can you confirm 27K is correct? Thanks.

Could not find the exact speaker model on their website. Is it Dream Nano?

yup, Dream Nano, but without the sub in the series....that sub is replaced by the much more powerful Onkyo 204 sub....

Isn't the Nano power of 80/120 rms @ 4 ohms a bit low?
Any idea if it is available in Mumbai? Prices? What about Lord GX?

Is this price for grey market? I was quoted 44.5k with b&w for AVR+sub only!

I went to their only outlet .. K'mangala and it is quoted at 26900/- all inclusive (including VAT)

Really a fantastic price. I had spoken to them today. My brother happened to be in BLR today and is coming back to BOM tomorrow. Unfortunately he already has 20 kilos baggage. So difficult to carry another 26 kilos! So had to drop the plan!!!

I went to onkyo showroom at bangalore. hts5105 is retailing for 33k, you can bargain it for around 31k. I asked him to play kill bill , and guess what, it just beats every sony, philips and all every other HT and even some other onkyo models (3105,3100) away from competition.

The sound is so fantastic i was blown away. Brilliant. But when it comes to music, it was very bad. Even jbl scs 140.5 connected to a HK AVR sounded more crisper. At low and high volumes, this is definitely not a choice especially for music lovers. For movies, crank up the volume to mid, and enjoy the sweetness of surround sound :D

Just my opinions. Yours might vary :)

3100 or 3015 there is no difference expect the color .. 3105 priced tag is Rs.17k in Hyderabad and 5015 is tagged Rs.27k in x-cite, Hyderabad.

I recommend 3105 because its budgeted and don't have only option of HDMI .

if u r a bass lover, stay clear of 3105 and 3100. From what I've auditioned, even logitech z5500's bass sounds a lot better than 3105 and 3100.
